Nice enough course in a town center park 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 10, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good baskets
Good Tee signs - very attractively done shame a map was not on each colour tee, but TBF that would probably be overkill as they are all close together and obvious which basket to throw too.
Some interesting lines to play
Busy Park but little used area for the course

Cons:

Short, very much pitch and putt
Some nasty rough patches but this is the worst time of the year for that so probably better at other times.
Some branches need to be cut back at tunnel entrances/exits
Poorly signposted from the reception.
Some dog walkers seem to use this as a cut through.

Other Thoughts:

So, cards on the table. This should have been a course I was designing and installing, unfortunately an unexpected hospital stay led to me missing the tender deadline and so it was awarded elsewhere.

I had a superb 9 hole layout worked out for the area and was really looking forward to this one, I think with the open, woods and elevation available it could have been up there with the best nine holers in the country. With that in mind and seeing some of the other reviews here I had avoided the course for a long time and was expecting to hate it.

I didn't.

It's a fun little 9 holer. Baskets are good and visible although some of the powder coating is starting to chip off, tee sign maps are lovely.

There don't need to be three tees for each hole, really the length of them warrant one or two at best, I would have liked to have seen angles played with more on the different tees to create different feeling holes rather than just longer. The reason there are three tees and it feels a bit forced?

Because my original layout had three positions on Blue holes that were 80 - 140 meters long and that's what the council tender was written too. Oh well. Don't leave your homework to the last minute kids. That would be my biggest frustration, I know there is a superb nine holer in the area, that is safe and fun and flows really well and what is there now is not to the same level but I can't criticise a course on that basis!

However, what is there now is good. It's a perfect introduction course to new players and as an experienced player I enjoyed throwing the holes.

It's worth a stop if travelling by and as a first time course for families looking for an activity it should do enough to get them going with the sport.
