I Like This Little College Course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 14, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Bluefield College course, "The Ram", plays through and the around this small college's campus. The course has these cool little green tee signs. I think they match the rest of the college's signage. There are no tee pads. You just tee from the sidewalk or next to the signs. The baskets are nice, new Discatchers with the yellow band and #'s.

Hole 1 starts right in the center of campus and plays 216, across the hub. I wonder how crowded this hub area gets. From here it's quite a walk to find the # 2 hole. I just luckily walked that direction because I had noticed baskets down there on my drive in. # 2 is way cool. It has to be the signature hole here. You're teeing it up from way up above an large athletic field. The basket sits out by itself 350' down there. I would think it would be possible for scattered armed students to throw one off the wall of the gymnasium, which is on your left side. Then # 3 starts the playing back towards the main campus buildings.

About # 7, the hole the course designer thinks can never be birdied. I believe some guy with a big arm, 400' drive, could throw up a big ole hyser bomb that wraps around the last tree guarding the basket. That guy with the big arm is not me. I took a three.

The course ends with a cool little ACE run 171' across a campus road.

Cons:

Navigation is a little dicey. I was lucky to stumble across # 2.

The long walkouts going to # 2 and then again walking to # 6.

The first hole across the hub has to be a problem at times.

Even my fav, # 2, has to has students on that field sometimes.

Other Thoughts:

Note to course designer. There are a couple of incredibly easy way to point the way to the next tee. The easiest is to wrap brightly colored tape around the rung in the basket which points to the next tee. That's very easy to do. The second way is to paint the rung. This looks a little better. A third way is to hang a directional arrow from the rungs. I've seen these directional arrows made from wood, metal or plastic. Hang them with wire or plastic ties. Still another guide is paint an arrow on a regular brick and bury the brick in the dirt under the basket.

Nice course. It's a nice design. Congratulations on getting this project pushed through the proper channels. I'm sure that was a chore. Next step is to get the intramural office involved and set up a weekly league or doubles event or how about a co-ed doubles tourney? Good luck with the course.
