Good Location, Unfortunate Execution drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 9, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Easy to find, right off of Route 16 between Columbus and Newark.
- Big map at parking lot
- Porta-potty provided on-site
- Nice mix of open fields, rolling hills, and woods
- Water hazards are enough to be interesting, but not deep enough to require a snorkel if you put a disc in.
- Holes have both short and long tees
- There are quite a few benches and a couple trash cans

Cons:

- carpet/astro-turf tee pads are lumpy and bumpy. Can't always do a proper run-up drive.
- hole-to-hole navigation is difficult. course layout is like a rat's nest, interspersed with hiking trails. Even with UDisc app map, next tee is difficult to locate. Without UDisc it would be nearly impossible.
- long tees often aren't much longer than the shorts
- bad hole-to-hole flow. long walks between holes
- several holes throw across the fairways and near teepads of other holes. risk of hitting other golfers or being hit yourself.
- all holes are basically straight with no requirement for shot-shaping except to get around trees
- short holes are very short. The "longs" here would be shorts at most other courses in this area.
- mud and standing water a problem after rain
- small parking lot

Other Thoughts:

Tri-Village Church is a course set in a nice piece of land, but after playing it the course feels like the designers really missed an opportunity for greatness.

Grafted onto an existing set of wooded hiking trails, this course feels like it was set up by someone who wanted to support local disc golf, but wasn't actually a disc golf player themselves.

I'd love to see a serious re-design here, set up by people who are serious disc golf players. This piece of land has a ton of potential, but the current course layout doesn't take advantage of it.
