Three in a Row

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 6, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Westminster Catawba Christian School has the remnants of what was once a course. Maybe? Either way, you've now got five located baskets and three pads. Enjoy!
- The "course" plays around between the school's ball fields. Holes are short in length.
- The remaining baskets are in decent shape. They're upright and chains seem to be intact.
- Course can offer a decent safari or practice layout. #2's basket is just beyond a transmission tower. #4's basket is tucked away close to woods. With the ball fields, you can set up layouts of 600 feet or more.
- #2 & 4 are the best holes simply because they are the ones that have obstacles. A lengthened #4 would be a good hole on many courses.
- If you don't care about finding tee markers, then the course is easy to navigate. #1 & 6 are close to each other on the same slope. According to Google Map, it's only 280 feet from #6's basket to #2's. So, yeah, they're bunched together.

Cons:

Course is neglected. It's clear little to no work is put into maintaining this layout.
- How did this campus ever have 11 baskets installed? There is little to no extra room on the property to add additional holes as is. Unless all holes were in the 100 - 125 foot range, having 11 baskets seems crazy.
- Deep in the woods, past #4's basket, there's an old sign for #5. The sign is surrounded by underbrush and overgrown saplings & weeds. The sign lists #5 as a 53-foot hole. Unless you're throwing over the creek, why have this? I looked every which way and didn't see a basket 53 feet from the sign.
- Lack of challenge and lack of fun. Having three wide open holes may be considered 'kid friendly.' Kids aren't dumb however. They know when something is boring.

Other Thoughts:

WCCS has baskets. I'm not sure what more can be said.
- The course is closed during school hours. I played on a Saturday when the parking lot was full with cars for basketball games. Nobody noticed or cared that I was throwing.
- You could squeeze in a decent six hole layout, or a passable 9-hole layout if the course used every last inch of space. Holes would essentially have to hug, or weave through the wood perimeter or the campus, and require a lot of walking to optimize the round. The ROI wouldn't be worth it.
- With the baseball/soccer field occupying most of the space, there just isn't room for a course.
- The course was listed on DGCR as being extinct. I drove by it recently and noticed the baskets in the ground, so I made a trip back to bag it.
- I spent more time trying to find the tee markers for #3 & 6 and #5's basket than I did actually throwing.
- Unless I lived directly across the street and used the feel to practice throwing drivers, I wouldn't step foot here to play. There are so many other school courses in Rock Hill that are better. Plus you're 5 minutes from Camp Canaan. Play anywhere but here.

Difficult to navigate 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 19, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course is good for ace runs and beginners.

Cons:

Too short for advanced players. Course is difficult to navigate as there is no sign for holes 7-10. Since the course uses natural tees this makes it next to impossible to find the tee-offs.

Other Thoughts:

This course is on school property so you can't play during school hours.
