Pros:
West Park is a pretty mediocre neighborhood park that is low on challenge and mostly through open field areas. Hole one is probably the early highlight of this course because it actually forces players to choose between two distinct fairways and shape either a medium-range hyzer flip shot or long hyzering sidearm skip shot. Besides the course itself, the rest of the park is pretty nice with well-maintained grassy fields, a small marsh that comes into play on a few shorter holes, and nice tee signs on each hole.
Cons:
The course only has a couple of holes where trees actually form any sort of obstacle. Mostly, the trees are placed so far down the fairway that they don't really make a player shape thier shot and only really come into play if you have to putt around one. There is a little bit of challenge in terms of distance and a few pin placements that are close to the small marsh, but overall, experienced players are going to be a bit bored.
Other Thoughts:
This course reminds me quite a bit of the sea of nine hole courses that dot the Chicagoland area. Limited tree coverage, flatness, and few unique features make it difficult to create a course which is challenging but the designers here have done what they could and, for casual players, this course is probably a pretty fun play. Otherwise those looking for a traditional challenging course should head to nearby Eagle Island.
