Six More

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 13, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

When you have a fun 18-hole course in place, what can you do to top it off? Throw in six more baskets and make a short Ace Place layout.
- This one is for the kids. Six holes. 600 feet. Bring a putter or two and make runs at the baskets.
- #4 is the fun downhiller. Either a soft floater down to the basket, or a beeline around the trees.
- #3 & 6 are uphillers, so need a little more to hit the chains. The other 3 holes you can easily play while keeping a second disc in the other hand.
- Good for a quick round. Can easily play through 3-4 times in 30 minutes.
- And the main layout is pretty fun too. Warm up and cool down here.

Cons:

Course is rather compact. If you're getting families/newbies being introduced here, prepare for some to be playing to the wrong baskets.
- Pretty close to no challenge. Anything more than a 2 feels like a big letdown. And honestly, six 2s also feels like a missed opportunity.
- If you come here to only play this course, you're either a beginner, ignorant to the fact there's also an 18-hole layout here, or a bagger needing to check another course off the list. I'll let you guess which category I fell under.
- Being in a small wooded section of the park, there's not much in terms of aesthetics.

Other Thoughts:

This is a nice Ace Place course. It fits in perfectly with the abundance of other 9-holer (or less) church and school courses throughout York County.
- This course is pretty forgetful. It's definitely the piece of honeydew that comes with your breakfast entree at a restaurant.
- Courses like this serve a place. Just keep in mind that you're looking for something simple, not spectacular.
- It took almost as long to drive the gravel road in the park to the parking lot as it did to play these six holes.
- Take these six holes, put in some more temp baskets and you've got yourself a good winter Ace Race layout.
- It's not the level of Fewell. It's much better than Westminster's school course. It's perfectly ok.

Westminster Park - Ace Place

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 20, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

A six hole course located at Westminster Park, where every hole is a set up to be run for aces. Every hole had nice DISCatcher baskets, well marked tee signs, and natural tees marked with the Innova tee markers.

Decent use of terrain to create different shots when running for aces: Uphill, downhill, around trees, through gaps.

Provides an interesting way to warm up for the main course at Westminster Park, other than a stand alone practice basket.

Shares the park with a nice, 18 hole disc golf course and a measured driving range where players can either warm up for the main course, or work on field work.

Could be used as an introduction course for very small children at the park with their families.

Cons:

This course is what it is. This isn't a short beginner loop in addition to the main course, similar to the Beginner Loop at Creekside Park in Archdale, NC. What it is, is a nice little addition to Westminster Park, a fun warm-up, and a place to pick up short aces. Every hole is listed as a Par 3, but realistically every hole is an easy 2 unless you sail past the basket trying for the ace.

Other Thoughts:

Honestly, this is a fairly long review for what this course really is. It is a nice addition to Westminster Park, and I am personally glad it is there. I will definitely play it anytime I return to Westminster in the future, but it isn't the reason you drove to the park- and it is little more than a place to spice up your putting warm-ups. I love it for what it is, but if I am rating it as a course, and not purely for its design purposes- I would struggle to give it anything higher than a 1.0 rating.

Neat addition to the full course drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 18, 2023 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

+ New baskets

+ Plays on the same property as an excellent 18 hole course + driving range

+ Every hole is an ace run

+ Trees and elevation changes add variety between holes. Two uphill shots, two flat, two downhill. Nicely balanced.

+ Dead simple navigation. Tiny course with well marked tees and good flow.

+ Restrooms nearby.

Cons:

- Only 6 holes

- Very little challenge being an ace race course

Other Thoughts:

By itself this course wouldn't be notable at all, by being an addition to a full sized course and driving range, it compliments them very well.

This course is perfect for warming up for the full 18. Gives you lines to practice fh and bh upshots and can some putts.

If this were the only disc golf attraction on the property it would be 1 star at best. But judged as an addition to Westminster 18 rather than a solo course, it does what it sets out to do well.

Westminsters full course is a destination level course, so I'd stop by to play a round here as a warm-up before tackling the full 18.
