A Review With Movements 2+ years

Pros:

Act I: "The Specialty"

-It's brand new. The tee signs and tee pads must have been established before the course was put in. The temporary tee signs are extremely neat! Nice diagrams and have dynamic disc logos on them. The actual tee signs will come in soon. I must say it's really nice that they went the extra mile to put in those preeminent temp signs.

-Nice Dynamic Veteran baskets. Huge fan and primary thrower of DD, I love seeing their baskets. Every hole at Whirl Wind has two pin positions. Some of the long pins are pretty challenging and fun.

-There was a man at the pavilion selling discmania, and trilogy discs. Not sure if he comes here often, but my buddy gladly purchased a disc from him. Whirlwind instantly struck me as a Dynamic Discs Specialty. The signs, the baskets, and the man selling some DD plastic.

Act II: "The Cream of the Crop"

-Whirlwind's best features would be the fact that you may be able to play a slightly different layout the second time you play here if the pins are not in the same position as last time. Course has many short holes around 200'. It's a bit disjointed at times. #7's long pin is a par three that's over 400' and across an open field. The last 80' or so is through a wooded pocket. Then there's #8 that 150ish and down a small hill through a tight gap off the tee. Almost plays as a jump putt in the woods that you'd maybe have after landing in the rough on a hard hole.

-The best of this course is mostly on the front nine. #5 is probably the signature hole. It's downhill and primarily open. The drive has a line of trees to the right side and an orchard to the left, followed by a tree line. I threw a raider over the orchard and it glided nicely but ended left on the other side of a tree line. Basket was in the 525' par four position. That pin is an easier hole overall. The short pin is nearly 400' and is only a par three. So #5 is both a challenging and rewarding par three and a grip it and rip par four with a chance for big arms to reach.

-Shreddable. Pretty good for starters. Some holes here are very difficult, but if you can do reasonably well on the harder holes, you'll probably score well here. Most of the holes are pretty easy to birdie if you are very competitive in PDGA events.

Act III: "The Last of the Lantern"

-Miscellaneous. There's a vending machine near the pavilion in between the bathrooms. There's also a dog park beside #1's fairway.

-This area needed a course and now it has one. My buddy and I saw many people playing and they seemed to enjoy it. Few families with their children were playing the course. I'd call Whirlwind a "Gateway Course." It's not great, but it has some great parts to it and those parts to it will get new people invested.

-Many next tee signs, so it's easy to navigate.

Cons:

Act IV: "The Entrance"

-It's a severe pain in the ass. You better buy some pepto and bring it with you. The driveway to get here is high gravel. My car sounded like my feral cat at 3 AM while driving up that hill and it can scratch your wheels worse than the scratch of a feral cat. It's not too bad when you pull in, but when you depart you have to drive up it and it sucks!

-While we are at it, there's no parking lot I know of. You have to park to the side. Not too big of a deal, but you'll probably have to do a three point turn when you leave.

Act V: "The Bitching (What Whirls My Winds)"

-Gets pretty bland. Some of the holes are shorter and open without much taste. #1 in my opinion is far better in the long pin that the short. The short is a boring straight hole while the long pin is only a little further but behind a big tree. The long looked a lot funner. #4 is another boring ace run. Good opportunity for an ace, but still boring. That's what whirls my winds.

-You are going to need two bottles of pepto. One for the driveway when you depart and the other for this: #15 is incomplete and is as infuriating as the driveway to get there. Both will make you think there's a freshly burnt match stuck up your rectum. There's no fairway, a few tiny gaps but if you miss (very likely since they are tiny), you will kick either left or right. There's a whole lot of weeds, debris and probably some other stuff in there. That's what whirls my winds. Hole #17's short pin should be a par four or simply not exist. It's 400' and a legitimate dogleg left with heavy rough on both sides. The long pin looked a little fun. Over 500' and further down the trail.

-Ends with a 145' dogleg left severe hyzer. #18 could be a better wooded hole but it's just kind of irritating. You have to throw a very weak hyzer with something very overstable. Those are typically safe shots you throw to escape trouble and those shots aren't very fun.

-The rough is very dense but that's just a new course issue that'll fix in time. I must say, I was 40' from the pin on #7 but was in the woods, so I had to pitch out and I missed the putt for par. That's what whirls my winds.

Other Thoughts:

Act VI: The Final Thought

-Whirlwind is secluded. Pretty far from the gems such as Warriors Path, Winged Deer, and Harmon Hills. If I lived in Greeneville, I'd play here frequently only because it would be the easiest to get to. It's not a bad course, it has its positives so it's definitely worth a shot. After all, you may enjoy it more than I did.

-As for me, I don't think this course is my taste. I loved a couple of the holes here, but so many gave a lukewarm feeling. Doesn't mean you'll think the same, but this course to me is just okay. I liked the front nine but didn't like the back nine. A few holes on the back nine were pretty fun. But more of them were no better than okay.
