great course but you'll probally need a distance driver for the course.

This relatively long 9 hole is set on the north side of Whitworth's campus with nice views of the valley beyond. There is a decent variety of hills and trees so there aren't many straight flat drives for the pin. 2 and 3 play along a hillside that is steep enough that an errant shot hurts. 9 is a longer down hill shot with a ravine that starts shortly in front of the pin and gets wider to the right. Again, not a good hole to miss with your drive. Well set up as most newer players won't drive that far and gives some risk to players with bigger arms.
The course is set up in a large circle sot it is easy to follow with good flow.
Tee signs are holding up well and good sized concrete pads have been put in recently.

Not to sound like a stuck record, but cheatgrass.
Finding the course was a little difficult, hole 1 is quite a ways away from the pin on the map.
No public water or bathrooms.
No course map or indications of next tee location.
These are all minor complaints.

This really is a well laid out if not overly complicated course. It makes good use of the space and terrain. It may not be the most imaginative course but since it is one of only 2 9 hole courses in the area a fairly standard course is welcome. Between this and the close by YMCA course locals can build the necessary tool kit to do well on bigger courses.
Worth a quick stop to play if you are in the area but no reason to go too far out of your way.

The Whitworth Back 40 DGC starts just below the school's intramural building. The course plays five holes out, one up and then the last three back to the start. The baskets are brand new Mach 5s. The signs are the old style fiberglass ones. They have the hole #, distance and par. The tee pads have wood borders but are filled with wood chips which make for terrible run-ups. The first part of the course has been spray seeded and that has not quite taken hold yet.

You start with a 270' downhill which crosses a street/walking path and two little black plastic fences. # 5 is the longest hole at 438'. It crosses two ridges and plays to a basket set in the woods on the left.

I liked the last three holes the best.

# 7 is a fairly tight/straight 396' slight downhill toss through the trees
# 8 is a great little 180' ACE run.
# 9 is a 411' nice downhill with a slight hyzer needed at the end.

The course designers made two big mistakes IMO. #1 is the fiberglass signs. They look great now. In two years, they'll look shabby. In five years, they'll be beat to hell and be mostly unreadable. Every fiberglass sign on every disc golf course in America is unreadable after five years of teen vandalism and weathering.

Secondly, the wood chips in the tee boxes makes for terrible footing. This can be fairly easily remedied. Take out the wood chips and put in some patio blocks.

I'm a little concerned with # 9 being a safety hazard off the tee. Be careful of bikers/walkers/joggers coming up the path in front of you.

The DGCR review page says this a private course and not available to the public. I played by myself on a Sunday afternoon and saw one other person the course and no campus security.

I agree with the previous reviewer. It's worth playing on occasion just for a change of pace from Spokane other top notch courses.

It's a fun 9 course that's relatively unused. There are plenty of better courses in Spokane, but it's a fine course to break up the monotony of playing the same places again and again. The only thing that really bothered me was how much attention campus security gave me. They watched me like a hawk each time I played there. If they add more holes, which it looks like there's room for, I'd like to see more development of holes in the woods. I'd give it a 1.75 , but that's not possible so I gave it a 1.5 instead.
