There is a nice little stream running through the course that adds a bit of risk/reward to play. When I was playing the water was down enough that you didn't have to worry about loosing your disk. It was just inconvienant to drag it out of the water.

Personally I woulld have liked to see more long shots. Around here 300-350 ft. shots are about average but in Colorado this is considered a long shot.

From reading other reviews I expected to be surrounded by rude people, but I found everyone to be very nice and helpful. There were several larger groups of players who saw that we had a smaller group that was moving faster than they were.The all offered to allow us to play through without us having to ask. They were very helpful in giving us help navigating the course.

Might be the best course I've seen so far. Distances shots, technical shots, and everything in between plays here.

Most of the holes have water in play and mature trees to dance through, making it very hard but fun.

Hole placement is key here, they have some fun locations in groups of trees.

One of the early holes has an elevated tee that is a lot of fun.

Not much, but a few things.

Their are few designated tees, most are sidewalks with faded markings.

It's in a park, so people tend to look down on the DG'ers because we almost took out a kite.

Do NOT go after a disc in someone's yard.

Because our DG brethren have disrespected people's property, they aren't too fond of us at Widefield. Most yards have "Do Not Enter" signs and barbed wire on the fences. These are the actions that get courses removed.

Well kept.
Not a lot of traffic.
Nice open long shots in the begining and the end and the middle is wooded.

The creek in the middle on some days can just take you disk down stream and you will never see it again.
If your disc goes in someones yard you may have issues getting it back. Some of the yards have barbwire on the fences or they will take your disc and not give it back.

Besides me losing discs at this course i have a lot of fun here.

Very nice, narrow course that runs through a greenway with a creek that runs throughout and comes in to play on approximately 12 of the holes. Great course to play on a windy or hot day, as most of the course has trees and minimizes those factors. The persistent presence of the creek demands shot-making skills and the ability to hold a line instead of just bombing hyzers. A good number of trees and a couple of mandos that again require skill, but not so many trees that it is just stupid luck if you don't hit one. People use the course, but it's rarely crowded and the locals are cool. Course starts and ends very near the parking area. Good place for a relaxing round.

no benches or trash cans once you start the course. Some folks think the proximity of the houses is a con, but honestly, if you have any amount of control they shouldn't come in to play, Baskets are a bit beat up and the signage is sometimes barely discernable. No elevation change, so that doesn't come in to play

Houses on the anhyzer side of nearly every hole, so be respectful of the residents and don't scream expetives if your shot goes awry. We don't need problems with the neighbors.

This course is the best one in the Colorado Springs area now that the Hewlett Packard course is gone. They (the designer) made very good use out of the available terrain. Lots of long drives and technical approach shots. Not nearly as crowded as Cottonwood.

The trees can make you wanna scream sometimes, but I've seen worse. The creek that runs through the course can be anywhere from 3-6 feet across, depending on the snow run-off. It also seems that once your disc gets wet, it wants to go in the creek every time. (Maybe that was just me...) The course is surrounded by private residences 60% of the time, so if you have a very errant toss, you might find yourself knocking on someones door to get your disc back. Just don't go into their backyard to retrieve it yourself....

Overall, I like this course. Mainly because it's not as crowded as the others. There are still people here, don't get me wrong, but it's much more sparsly populated. Just try to go as early as possible, and yield your throws to the dogwalkers and joggers and this course provides hours of fun and competitveness. Enjoy!

Widefield Park provides an incredible setting for a very good park course. The park sits in a very nice neighborhood. The park itself shows signs of being well maintained. There are other opportunities for activities for your non disc golf playing friends. The tee pads are nice, especially when they are not on the sidewalk. The tee pads are very consistent throughout. The baskets are still in good condition even though they show signs of age. The chains seem to catch discs better than most. There are more chains on these baskets than you see in a lot of places. The course design makes use of the mature trees in the park very well. There are very few if any filler holes, each hole provides a nice challenge. The flow of the course is rather logical and it is easy to find the next tee a majority of the time if not all the time. The creek that runs through the park is really nice when the water is low. The water looked very clean and it was rather easy to pull discs from the water. There is clearly a local community committed to this course and improving it as needed. This was obvious by the elimination or moving of certain tee pads throughout the course.

The park is a rather busy park and there is a lot of traffic, both of the disc golf variety and the pedestrian variety. There were several holes where dog walkers seemed not to know that they were walking right down the middle of a fairway. The tee signs, although they are consistent, are not very good. They serve more to let you know where the next tee is than to tell you about the hole you are playing. A few of the holes feel very tightly packed together. There is a nice long walk from the end of hole 18 back to the parking lot or the first tee. Rumor has it that the stream running through the park can flood after storms and become near impossible to pull discs out of.

This course has been in place for a while and as I talked to some local players they told me about how the course had almsot been pulled several times because people would tresspass into backyards to get errant discs. The layout of the course is such that it would take a lot to have an errant throw go into a backyard. I am not saying it won't happen but it is a challenge to do so. The course itself is more challenging than most people seem to realize. There were a lot of people playing from pro tees at this course that probably would have had more fun playing from the am tees. A few tees had been pulled or changed. Hole 3 Pro tee pad is up the hill a bit from what appears to be the tee. You could still play from old pro three but the new tee pad is more fun. The biggest improvement that this course needs right now is new tee signs. In playing the course for the first time it was really hard to know what to throw as holes looked shorter or longer than they actually were. The course was a lot of fun to play and is worth the time to get to this course if you are in the area. The course will look a lot different depending on what season it is. In the winter the course was very dry and dusty allowing discs to skip and hover along the ground. When Spring and Summer come around and things are growing you will be able to see a lot less through the tree leaves and might not get the skips off of the grass that will grow. Think about when you are playing this course to try and avoid the crowds.

If I hadn't read past reviews I would have been completely unprepared for what I ran into at Widefield Park DGC. I was pleasantly suprised by this gem, which has something for everyone. WF is located in the very south end of the Springs, not far from I-25 and easy to get to.

Widefield is equipped with DISCatcher baskets painted orange-red which are easily seen. Double layer chains catch discs very well. All baskets are in good shape, a few having some unwelcome "artwork". Hole 18's basket is the original style DISCatcher. Tee pads are concrete, and are average size. Ground behind tee pads is level with the pads, so runups from behind the tee is no issue. Tee signs at every pad(except hole 1) atop 3' 4x4s with hole number painted on sides. Signs show various pin placements and distances of each.

A creek runs through a majority of the course, adding difficulty to otherwise average holes. The first 12 holes play open-lighly wooded, final 6 light-moderately wooded. Elevation is minimal, and wouldn't be considered a pro, but I consider it a pro because its different from any other local course in that respect.

Alternate pin placements(3-5 per hole) allows baskets to be moved frequently and keeps the course fresh. Pro and Am tees on all holes means you can change it up even more. This course plays longer than other local courses, so Am tees may be helpful for some.

Course has variation, with holes playing left, right and straight. Alternate pin placements may have you playing holes as short as 200' and as long as 500'+ from Pro tees.

Park is situated within a residential area w/ homes bordering most of the park. Holes 7-13 play within throwing distance of fenced in back yards. It is strongly suggested to knock on residences' doors if you throw a disc into these yards, which can be a long walk just to retrieve a disc(hopefully the homeowner is home at the time). Oh yea, and most of the neighbors have dogs, so the constant barking doesn't end. This is the only major con.

Tee signs could use upgrading. Paper printouts behind plexiglass doesn't keep the weather out, and a couple are unreadable from weathering.

Hole 1 was a challange to find, and I didn't find it until I finished playing hole 18. FYI, hole 1 Pro tee pad located on sidewalk, next to parking lot at the opposite end of the enterance. There is a line and "1" painted on the sidewalk, and there is no tee sign(this is the only hole where the tee sign is located at the Am tee).

No trash baskets, and no benches.

This course brings variety to this area. Widefield has a flat terrain, grassy-ish fairways and has light traffic. Much different from HP(tons of changes in elevation, shorter holes) and Cottonwood(tightly packed, desert feel and extremely crowded).

There are plenty of fun lines to play at Widefield. Bring the big guns, though. You'll need it on a few holes.

Sense of unwelcome due to the multiple signs basically proclaiming that disc golfers are a nuisance to the neaighborhood. If your disc Goes OB, good luck getting it back. Luckily, they don't really come into play on the holes

Liked the course. Would definitely play again when in the Springs. Next time, I hope it won't be 100 degrees out.

This course has a lot going for it, from long drives in open fields to tight areas in the trees. All in a very long and narrow park (great use of space) which can provide nice shade on those HOT summer days. This course has many "pro" tee options for more advanced players.

A small creek can come into play on a few holes, depending on pin placement. Houses are close to a few tee pad as well, with many "No Trespassing" signs, resulting in a possible long walk around to ask for a disc back (not fun).

Coming from Denver this is by far my favorite Springs course, it spread out well and usually far lees crowded than Cottonwood Creek can get. Terrain is fair enough for children or strollers.

Widefield has many mature trees that add a level of difficulty to each shot. Most of the holes have alternate pin or tee placements. The winding creek through the course adds a challenge. The course was well maintained and was quiet and clean. The back section of the park consists of shorter holes that offer great risk/reward with the creek behind many baskets. The course was not busy at all, and I have heard it stays that way most of the time. The bright red baskets are easy to spot.

The proximity of some holes to neighbor's yards poses a lost disc problem. Many of the fairways cross, so keeping a watch out is imperative. The tee signs are nice, but do not tell which of the pin locations the basket is in. We were lucky to play with a local.

Many holes had alternate tees so your experience with the course may be different depending on the tees you played from. We played from more of the "Pro" tees. There are many holes that make you work hard for par, and many that a 2 is easily achievable. It is the least busy of the two public courses in Colorado Springs, but still offers a good time.

This is a pretty sweet course that can be challenging for most players, especially when its windy which is often. There are some nice longer holes which occasionally have a tough alley to shoot through. The creek can create some tougher shots. There are a solid amount of trees to get in your way and knock down otherwise great drives (story of my life). Also a great place to bring your pup along with you especially if they like to swim. We usually roll with a bulldog who LOVES the water but cant swim so the creek is perfect for smaller dogs and younger dogs. Its also almost never crowded which is a huge bonus so you can work on some shots and take some extra practice drives.

My main issue here is the bugs. The creek breeds tons of bugs and mosquitos that seem to only go after me and leave everyone else alone. The creek also gets pretty ill at times when the water is more stagnant but the usual quick rain storm in the afternoon fixes that up nicely. They let the grass get out of control at times which makes it tougher to find your disc and tends to have a ton of bugs that are pretty annoying. When they mow it occasionally it makes things a lot more enjoyable. Sometimes trash is an issue which is more of an ambience issue then anything that will get in the way of your fun so dont litter and toss a couple pieces of trash for the greater good.

This is a really fun course that is moderately difficult at times, especially for beginners. I have had a lot of fun here so if you're around this area definitely take a couple hours and hit it up
