Pros:
-Blaze Orange Baskets
-OK Signage
-Good mix of open and technical
-Mostly disc golf only area
Cons:
-Mostly in river bottom, so very sandy
-Somewhat gravel tee boxes, some inundated with sand
-Way back to the course a little sketchy, especially if it's been wet
-Watch for those on the walking trail along the left side of #8
Other Thoughts:
Wild River is a decent course located on the west side of Mapleton, IA. Follow the road all the way to river. First tee is just beyond the gate for the walking path. Only real elevation comes on the first hole. #2- #7 are in the river bottom. #8 and #9 are up on a small plateau with the walking trail up and to the left. The ones in the flood plain can have some iffy footing on the tee boxes which are a space of gravel. Signage is OK with hole number, distance, and par. Flow was decent. Walking trail is in play sightly on #8, but it is up and to the left, only an errant shot will get up there. #9 is short and a little more away from the trail, so it isn't really in play. I didn't mind the shorter holes, overall it was a good mix. Nothing to really boom one out on, but enough to have some finesse. I did play in early spring, so the rough along #2, #3 and #4 were not bad, as of yet. I would guess it depends on the year, if there had been flooding, or not. Definitely unplayable in such a high water event. The river is to the left on #2 and #3. but not really in play. I enjoyed my round here. Watch your footing and enjoy the blaze orange baskets. I would play here again, if in the area.
