Decent small park course, needs maintenance 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 20, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Mostly short technical holes
-Very little traffic on the day I was there
-Several decent shots at an ace
-Easy to navigate layout once you start playing
-Map of hole locations near the start to hole 1
-On the Yellow River, but it doesn't come into play much
-Short course so can be played solo in under 30 mins

Cons:

-Most holes play back to back, so you may need to wait or join the group in front
-Several holes throw at walking or parking areas
-No hole numbers on baskets
-All but 2 hole numbers missing from pads
-Basket for 17 is missing, the one for 15 is almost broken
-No real facilities besides a port-o-potty

Other Thoughts:

Really should have been a 9 hole course which would've played better
First time playing on elevated deck-like pads but as the holes are mainly short, didn't really bother me & they were dry the day I played

Yellow River DGC 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 13, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Short course - excellent for the junior or player working on the short game or ace runs

Has tee signs

Has next tee indicators on the baskets

Course flows pretty well

Water doesn't really come into play on this short and flat course - not much chance in losing a disc in the river

Porta potty

Free parking (very limited)

Cons:

Tee pads are wooden, elevated, and potentially slippery - really doesn't get much worse than this...I recommend teeing off the natural surface if possible

Lots of broken glass scattered on some of the fairways

Many of the holes were bunched together - not much space between some of the fairways

Some of the fairways are not fair where there are no clear lines but some trees are still tagged for removal

Many fairways are flat and have no grass - so there is potential to be very muddy after rain

Walking path meanders throughout the course and parkgoers can cause some delays

Park can get very busy on the weekend with other parkgoers

Other Thoughts:

This is nice, short course in the Newton County that I believe will be great for a junior or rec player but not for the seasoned disc golfer. I was mostly disappointed by the tee pads. Of all the courses that I've played, this is the first one that I've seen where they are wooden and elevated - bad combination for slips and falls on any broken glass that is scattered over the course. It may have been better for this course to be a quality 9 hole than a crammed 18 hole course. If you play here, be sure to bring some insect repellent as they are really bad since it's close to the river. So it's definitely not a destination course but maybe it can serve as a warm up course for others nearby. Hopefully, the parks department will clean this course up a little more and make it safer to play.
