I dont think it's the fact that I "really love" DG that much at all. I think it all boils down to the fact that I love the whole social aspect of going out to play a round with ANYBODY; regardless of it being either a trusted friend or a complete stranger. In all reality, I think I could probably(?) have just as much fun being on a tennis court and playing a competitive match with someone else as long as I am "feeding off of" that persons "great time" as well.

I find myself basically going out of my way to not playing a round by myself at almost all costs. Some of you are different. There have been days where it is awesome weather out and all of you know that I have PLENTY of courses to choose from here in the QC yet if I dont have someone to enjoy that round with (no matter how bad the round), I am reluctant to ever just go out and throw by myself.:\

Call me a "social parasite" if you will but I guess I just enjoy feeding off of someone elses' "good time" throwing discs or whatever social sport it may be... Ya feel me?

Are there any of you out there that share the same way or does this sound "selfish"?

Thoughts please....

I play for mental health and meditation. I usually prefer to play alone.
However, I will gladly play with anyone, anywhere.
Solo aces are lonely.

The only time I play with strangers is in tournaments, but that's only because I'm socially awkward :p
I've never turned anyone down who asked to join me though.

Playing by yourself is a different animal then playing with somebody else. Usually when I'm alone it's because I'm either trying to squeeze some outside time in between other duties or I just need a break from everything. When you're having a hectic day and your two year old is doing his best tornado impression you need a chance to just get away for a bit. DG is a perfect outlet for me in that aspect, I love being outside. Half of the time when I'm doing my work, school stuff on the computer or on DGCR I'm sitting on my porch.

When I can I'll spend a good hour in my yard just practicing drives and approaches or playing my backyard course. If I still had a basketball goal I'd probably be out there just shooting hoops by myself for a while. Sometimes I get my soccer ball out and just juggle until my leg is tired. It is much funner when you're with other people on the course, but for me DG isn't just about fun, sometimes its a sort of mediation and brain exercise. A period where you can focus on something intensely and let the rest of life take a back seat for a while.

I couldn't have put it better myself.

Wow, everyone else's font seems so small compared to the op lol!

I understand where your coming from. I feel the same way. That is why I love playing tournaments so much. Meeting a new person or meeting back up with that person I met at the last tournament. I play rounds by myself all the time because there are not that many people where I currently live that play and scheduling a round can be hectic. However, back where I'm from, there are always people on the course and I would just walk up and meet someone on hole 1 and play a round with them. It doesn't matter if they have 1 disc, or are a seasoned pro, I just like meeting new people and playing disc golf all in the same.

I used to play tennis in leagues and that is what I liked about it. I could go to the courts and play with anyone and it was fun.

Great post man!

I'm a disc golf whore, I'll play with anybody or myself. Both have their pros and cons. I have by far and away enjoyed the camaraderie in this game more than any other sport I've participated in.

Usually weekends are when I want to play with friends or new people/strangers. During the week I like to play solo or with one or two friends occasionally but they have to be on the same page as me. It's not get drunk and be loud time but time to get quality practice in and enjoy the surroundings.

I play mostly by myself due to the odd times I play, but I love playing with most anyone. Its a nice change to play with a group but I feel like I am more focused on getting better when I play by myself.

I will play with anybody but I usually play alone. I have a couple of friends that I can occasionally drag out to play. I really don't want to play in tournaments because of the pace. Most 18-basket courses I can finish in 70-80 minutes and that includes Paw Paw, Nockamixon, Jordan Creek, French Creek. Many people wouldn't want to play at that pace. One day I played Nockamixon, Unami Creek, Tyler, Iron Hill and Goucher and I wanted to play Tinicum as well but after a half-hour of being lost looking for it, I headed south. I wish I knew about Carousel then because I would have jammed it in instead of Goucher.

When your sole ace is a solo ace is it the loneliest ace of all.

Most of my rounds are played solo just because they're usually spur of the moment outings. I enjoy meeting strangers on a course and often end up in a group. Either way it doesn't matter. I just like throwing discs.

^^^This is me.

But my bro is just like ChainAddicted. If no one will play, he will sit home, no matter how nice it is outside.

Whatever works for ya'. I try to get a group round arranged when I can, but working funny hours, its a bit difficult to get others to go out to the course when I'm playing. The upside is that there's fewer people out there when I do so there's no bottlenecks that interfere with play, except for maybe the parks department.

Complete opposite here. I play at least 95% of my rounds alone, and tend to avoid anyone I see at disc golf courses except for 2 or 3 people I really like.

I play by myself because I tend to be my biggest critic. I dont mind playing with people if they dont smoke and keep the f-bombs and language down. If I want to hear copious amounts of profanity and other garbage, I will just go to my local place of employment. One of the main reasons I only played random draw doubles once. Just cant stand the crappy attitudes and profanity. Not trying to be a prude and all, just dont care for it when I am out trying to enjoy myself.

lately i'm all competitive or nothing. any time i play casual, its a huge let down anymore. obviously i enjoy every moment im out throwing, but it takes a level of competition and focus in order to keep progressing that casual rounds just pull me away from. if i see myself as underachieving on the course, i could be having more fun, period.

I enjoy playing with others, but play more solo rounds than with others because I just love the game:
I love the flight of a nice drive, watching it turnover and come back - trucly graceful IMO.
I love placing an upshot for a drop in putt.
I love hitting a putt from 30' +
Hell, I love running the basket from basically any distance over 20 feet, and it just "feels" right the minute you release it, and you just know it has a chance to hit chains. Even if it doesn't hit, those moments of anticipation are a rush.

That's why I play. If there are others there to share, great, but I don't need anyone to enjoy those moments. Getting to see all the great courses, parks, nature and different cities is just a bonus.
