Putting with a ROC....

I've had it with my putters!! I have tried just about every putter on the market, and I don't like any of them. So I went to my trusty DX ROC for a putter. Most of the mid-range discs I have work, I just like the feel of a DX ROC. Realy I think its the size of the lip on most putters thats the problem for me. I started using my mids for putting this last friday, and so far I have dropped 4 strokes off my game. However I have learned a few things:

1-dont use anything other than base plastic, dx, r-pro, pro-d. Most other plastic is too slippery on the chains = duh.

2-trying to "turbo" putt is realy difficult for me with a mid, they are too big for my grip.

3-using a midrange disc as a putter in the wind is not as easy, I prefer to putt with the mid upside down when in heavy winds. This helps to keep from getting blown over or off to the side of a basket.

4-I stil carry a putter (black sss wizard) just because you never know what your round is gona throw at you!!

On a side note I'd pay to get a classic roc made outa the same plastic Gateway uses for their sss putters!!!! So anybody else like a roc or buzzz for putting??

I think everyone has gone through a phase in their game where they've putted with something other than a putter. I used a coyote for awhile and really liked it. Then I found the wizard...

Putting with mids gives a player with poor release control an advantage. Mids can be putted waaaay faster so any break in the flight will generally not happen before coming into contact with the chains. In addition larger diameter discs have a higher chance of hitting some sort of metal. The downside is that when you miss you miss big and skips/rolls are accentuation.

I think Paul Mcbeth sometimes putts with a Roc.

I love to putt with my goblin. It's sort of a midrange/putter hybrid. Straight flyer - drops like a rock at the end of it's flight

I putt with classic rocs and banger gts. The glitter star is gummy, the champs are nice and overstable at low speeds, but pricey. You can get the Tournament ccr for 20 from DD but i dont think they are the same as the old champ classics.

Mids just glide too much to be effective as a putter for me. The extra strokes from the blow-by putts that leave a long comeback far outweigh any advantage I'd get from them.

I find myself holing out with my Roc a lot because I'll have used my putter on the upshot and I'm too damn lazy to mark the putter.

Has anyone ever putted with an Innova Mako or even a Shark, I like to for long range putts, just got my 1st Mako about 3 weeks ago & so far I love it, it stays straight as an arrow for medium approach shots & putts.

I've never liked the deep rims of putters, either, but I worked my way through that between grips and putting methods. Did you ever try an XD, Dart, or Spike? Spike is a tweener, depthwise, but the others are shallow and don't suffer as much of the disadvantages of using a true mid like a Roc. But use whatever works for ya.

Try a dart. It's the same disc stat wise but a little slower and comes in grippier plastic. I used to use my mako for one disc rounds but found a lot of putts were sliding out due to the shape and smoothness of the disc combined with the wide diameter. Lotsa chains but less that stuck.

I use JK Aviars but I putt with my Cro in big headwinds.

R-pro Darts make great putters, I buddy of mine used one for a long time with good success.

I putt with my Zone and Drone when it's super windy. I banged a couple big putts into a strong headwind with my Zone at a mini last night.

If you like thicker rims on a putter I would recommned a Hydra! Feels very roc like to me and it is pretty stable for a putter.

I used to use a Spider.....I know a few guys who likes to putt with Rocs.

My first disc was a spider and I used it for everything. Pretty versatile and worked pretty well as a putter.

With the crazy wind at GBO this past weekend, I was using a KC Roc and DX Gator for putts or close range layups that normall would have been putts in regular wind.

Yes I have tried every putter known, seroius I have played for 20 years now. I was going back over some old phots of when I first started to play disc golf in 1992. Then I was known as the toughest putter anywhere, even won some putting games at tourneys. What suprized me is that I was using a Scorpion as a putter!! Some will know this disc, most will not. It was known at the time as a "hub cap" due to its large size. This makes more sence now as when I started golfing here in Washington/Oregon I got talked into using a traditional putter.
Just to prove my theory about my lame putting with a regular putter, I played a round at my local course on the longer t-pads, using only distance drivers and mids. Well I was 4 down on a par 54. I have never done this in the 10 years I have played at my local course. I just dont like the lip on putters, they are just too deep for me. However I do like my ION and ANODE putters from MVP for short controlled drives, about 200ft or so. I just think that my game is way better when I am putting with a ROC!!
