[Innova] Innova gators

What are the differences between all of them?

Pearly
Non pearly
Metal flake
Glow

Star

What the gators look like are in red. "Pearly" is a better looking disc in terms of looks, metal flake has little flakes in it, generally used for fundraising discs (CFR's) and "glow" is self-explanatory, it glows. The type of plastic is in blue, as star is the premium plastic used by Innova.

Quick and dirty explanation, hope it helps you out.

None really. My first gator was a DX, liked it and got a star, liked it and got some of the glo's.

Some of the champ gators might be a little gummier and better feel in the hand, but all of them are going to be overstable and good. I'd go with a DX if you can get it, if not star.

To me, a Gator should be nice and overstable, and the Champion ones are just that. They will hold their stability forever. I'm sure DX and Star ones are OS to begin with, but they will loose some stability over time. Champ ones will not. Plus, you have to watch out for beadless ones in Star plastic. A Gator should have a bead...

Go with a Champion Gator, whether it's pearly, metal flake, glow, etc. The pearlies will run you at least $60 bucks though! :gross: The metal flakes are pretty hoss.

Why dx or star vs champion. Sorry. Only been playing for 4 months and just inquiring

Because they're cheaper, and you don't need to spend that much money on a disc that you have no idea if you like or not yet. Champions will hold their overstable quality for longer, but a beaten DX or Star gator will still be as overstable as you'll ever need.. just with a little more glide on it. Trust me, you don't need to spend any more than 15$ on a midrange when you've been playing less than a year. Get yourself a cheapie, and if you turn out to love it eventually find yourself a good Champ.

To me Star is crap! The main reason I like the Gator (Champion). Is it's an overstable PIG, but the Star versions are not even close to the stability of the Champ molds. I've only had a few Star molds, but I noticed that the bead on them is either the same or not even noticeable compared to the Champ Gators. Not sure if the mold has changed or not? because the ones I have. I bought several years ago when I got hooked on these discs.

I started out with a DX gator and eventually migrated to star...It's a fantastic disc in any form.

Not even sure we should call the star versions gators. Some have no bead or a micro bead and the ones with a bead have a rounded nose. Innova please quit trying to make your overstable discs less stable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get a Champ or dx for a real gator feel IMO. Barstamp DX's dont break in as quick as you might think and they are like 8 bucks.

So there are many forms of the Gator. There is more than one Gator mold as far as I can tell. There is the beadless one. Then there is the blunt nose and the rounded nose, both of which I think have a bead. I believe that the Blunt nose with the bead is the most overstable. The rounded nose with the bead is less stable and I honestly have no clue where the beadless version fits in because if you are going to buy something overstable, that bead will make it more overstable. Be careful when you buy Champion Gators, some are rounded and some blunt. Glo and Metal Flake should both be blunt nose. Pearly is an older form of champion plastic that is highly sought after. I do not buy DX plastic because I play a lot and cannot have discs changing flight characteristics. I had an overstable DX driver that became my most understable disc in 2 weeks. There, you have my thoughts.

I have a DX and Star. I don't carry them all the time, but if the course needs it, or wind, I put it in the bag. My Star is still crazy stable. I like that my DX has broken in though.

If you look at youtube's GBO wind putt video, I was there.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6vjQ6H37nA

I putted that day with my DX Gator because it was so stupid crazy windy. It has no glide and is stable.

to put it nicely:|
dx gators start off overstable and work towards under/stable as they beat up and they throw like a faster roc.
champ gators start overstable and stay over stable, glo champ are ****ing beefy, you feel like you will take down any tree you hit
star gators are garbage. some folks like the beadless variety because they are less stable but just get a dx and you'll be fine.
the flatter the gator, the less glide you'll have but the more control you'll have.

I keep a dx barstamp and a cfr in the bag at all times. I use the dx mainly for long windy putts, backhand upshots that I want it to stick and rainy day upshots. The cfr is for side arm upshots or an upshot that I want to skip and short forehand rollers.

I have a DX barstamp in my bag it has become one of my favorite upshot disc. Live the feel of it. I have a champ metal flake which is very OS. I like the DX for how they beat in and how they feel.
