How do these discs compare? I know the rims are different in width, but they seem like they would have a pretty similar flight.

I havent gotten my hands on a D3 yet, but I am planning on it sometime soon. What do you guys think?

A friend has a D3 that will not turn. It's like a fresh Destroyer. Actually, probably even more overstable than that. Iv'e seen others have the same experience. Tern for sure. At least you know you wont be getting a meathook with a Tern.

Is his by any chance a proto D3?

I haven't used either disc. I think I want to pick up a Tern b/c I need a Max-D disc I can use for long hyzer shots. I can bomb my Destroyer with a FH or if I release with a hard anyhyzer but I don't get much on a hyper release.

The star tern I have is significantly less stable than any Prodigy D series I've thrown (1,2,3,4).

has your friend remove the flashing from the bottom of the disc. Alot of prodigy drivers are coming with extra flashing on the bottom once removed they fly their intended flight patterns.I got a d3 I sold my tern if that tells you anything.

I think that attribute this to a lot of the inconsistent flight claims for prodigy they aren't perfect but no company is and no company probably ever will be.

I am far from a fanboy of any company as I will throw any brand if I like the flight of a disc. But my bag this summer has went to nearly all prodigy and legacy plastic and I couldnt be happier. Very nice quality feeling plastics. Dont get me wrong the tern is an awesome disc. I wanted to keep it in the bag but I just wasnt throwing it so it had to go.

For what its worth my d3's are
2x First run light purple opaque copper stamps. 171g
1x production stamp .orange transparent. 173g

Sorry for spelling/grammar as im talk to texting on the go. Another long understable bomber that really impressed me is the westside tourney plastic king. Very easy to hyzerflip and super fast glidey disc

AH I should have specified, I am talking about the Champion Tern in comparison to the D3.

Good point on the flashing, that could have definitely been the case.

That is probably the case. With that said though, I removed the flashing from 3 D4s and none of them were even close to understable. Not trying to hate on Prodigy, just trying to be objective and share my experiences.

I've had expected results from my D3 and D4. D3 is long and glidey, with some turn and minimal fade, while the D4 has more turn and less fade.

Either way I found the Tern to be a little slower and a bit more understable than the D3's I've thrown. Both are pretty easyto control though.

Really?? My d4's were a bit stable ungil flashing removed. Now hyzerflip so easy. What drivers are you throwing that turnover.

I love the Prodigy discs because of the way the feel. However I cant seem to find two discs that fly the same.

I Have:

Green Proto D4- Overstable
Orang regular run- Flippy!
Ornage regular run- Understable
Purple regular run- Beefy
Green Proto D5- Overstable
M2- Understable
M4- Flippy
M4- Stable

Crazy inconsistant across the board. I could have listed more.

A beat Destroyer is what I'm using currently, or a beat Teebird. I'm actually giving thought to adding a Tern to my bag myself because of all the rave reviews about it. They certainly feel nice.

In my experience the Tern is closer to a D4 than D3. I also have to agree with some previous posts that Prodigy has been very inconsistent. I always hear how inconsistent Innova is but the Prodigy drivers are as bad as Innova is claimed to be. I've had both normal production & proto stamped drivers that are all over the stability spectrum. I had a flippy normal production D1 & a D4 that was overstable. The Protos I had were even more all over the place. I heard some of the protos were mismarked but that still shows problems in the company & makes them look bad. I'm not familar with any Prodigy discs that aren't drivers beside the PA4. Not trying to down Prodigy but I'd take a Tern over a D3 or D4 anyday. If I didn't cycle Star Destroyers & carry a beat Star Destroyer I'd have a Champ Tern in my bag.

Exactly. I will say that Prodigy's midranges and putters have been pretty good, but I agree about all their distance drivers and fairway drivers being all over the place.

Hmm definitely still wanna give the D3 a try, but I am really liking the Tern so far.

I'm curious, is the Discraft Crank at all comparable to the Champ Tern and D3?

My proto d3= OS like a nuke os. Maybe inbetween a nuke and nuke os. My proto d1 and d2 were both more understable than my d3, so maybe my experience isnt the norm.
Champ tern= very neutral and slower. Maybe a touch faster and longer than prodigy's F3.
