[Discmania] Discmania FD3

I just decided to order a C-glow FD3 I have heard these are more OS than typical FD3's but...what can I expect? I have a glow Champ firebird and its a beefy brick, which is great, but I wanted a more OS thunderbird kinda disc - so I hope this will work out. I wish they made standard S plastic in normal colors like white, blue, red, etc. I don't seem to see those around.

Yeah glow FD3s usually are flat and pretty OS for sure. I switched from FAF firebirds to them. I still bag a Spirit also for really stupid OS duties though, so its not like the glow FD3 is insane OS or anything.

Nope, it's that useful kind of OS.

Luster FD3 is the least OS. Not as long or as much glide. Maybe even a touch less fade than a super OS thundy

If you already bag birds and you just want a slightly more OS one you can pick up a star, or a Jerm bird.

Doombird 2 is the closest your going to find to a OS thundy but again still more FB than ThB.

^ ^ ^ ^ Yeah I got them in the mail, tested in the field, and yeah you are all correct, it was pretty flat, I compared to a Sexybird and yeah the are about the same, witch a lil more glide out of the FD3 - Champ Glow FD3 flies like a Star Firebird...not nearly AS OS as my other Champion Firebirds but close. I like the disc, pretty much a mellow Firebird but in the Champ Glow plastic it is almost a Firebird clone. I actually like it a lot and hope to get that nice wear into it so eventually will be perfect. So far I put it in and took the firebird out. Once it works in (probably forever because champ glow is durable) then ill pop the firebird back in. Thanks for the feedback. Its a cool disc for sure. I got the Simon Lizard stamp from Black ink heehee - it was my birthday gift to myself.

What vintage sexy bird are you comparing with?

not really vintage, probably the 17' or 18' . I have a stock star firebird and its a lot like a sexton and they flew very close, a little more glide than all of them though, FD3 is flat but a little different wing. I'm digging it tho

Maybe try a PD if your looking for a more overstable thunderbird. I have a few c-lines that a pretty overstable, much more so than my thunderbirds. Maybe a start thunderbird too?

As far as the fd3s I carry 3 of them. 2 glows: one newish that fills my overstable duties. A pretty beat one that is my straight with an overstable finish and a c-line fd3 that is really beat that is my straight to understable duties.

Hope this helps!

yeah I like the PD, and Thunderbird. Im gonna give the new ANAX a go as well.

Anyone compared Luster FD3s with Luster Thunderbirds? I recently picked up a Luster FD3 (shout-out broomerang) and love it, but I normally stear clear of bagging discs that aren't regularly available. Luster Thunderbirds seem like they might be comparable, but I'd love to hear if anyone has compared the two.

How does that one fly? It wasn't as flat as the run I happen to have a stack of so I didn't bother throwing it.

By the way I highly recommend you bag this disc, I've been throwing the same one for 3 years and it's still absolutely money. The luster plastic keeps its flight characteristics forever.

Like a dream. I used to bag a 165-167g C-line for longer flex shots or something I needed to go straight for 350' and get a bigger hyzer finish than my Explorers. This fits the bill perfectly but it goes further for me since it's max weight. It has a touch more glide than my DBII so its definitely staying in the bag. I just wish I had a few backups so I didn't have to worry about this one as much.

Anybody throw both the doombird II and III?

Any major differences?

I bagged the DB2 until I got the DB3 and held/threw it. I was never a fan of the DB2 run.

The DB3 is flatter and a touch more OS. It's also got a little more glide as well.

I wanted something in between my FD2 and Firebird, but didn't like the Doom Bird 3. I finally tried a C-line FD3 and assumed I would feel the same, but I actually love it. It's a penned run and has the slightest dome to it (my Doom Bird 3 is totally flat). It's going in the bag next to the Firebird for some practice, but I'm wondering - do most C-lines have a little dome like that?

I'm sure each run varies, but you know, in general. If I end up bagging it I'll want to grab a backup or two.

Yes most C-Line have a mild dome. Still comfortable to FH and have a great flight.
