I never really see this discussed. In the faster discs we all see people cycling D1's, Destroyers, Boss's, etc... but for the slower arm speed folks, what is a good base model to cycle?

I was thinking about Thunderbirds since I have a few that range from over stable to straight and for me, they are pretty long. I love sidewinders but don't think they are stable enough to cycle.

Just curious, is there an ideal "platform" disc for cycling distance drivers in the slower speeds or are we left for individual discs for each shot?

Really, if you tried hard enough, you could cycle anything. Nate Doss has Predators that he cycles for his fairway slots.

BUT to answer the question, I would find a mold that is like the other molds that people cycle. Why do Rocs/Destroyers/Teebirds cycle well? They're straight-overstable, where some of the discs/runs of that mold come out a little bit more beefy and some are a little bit less so. Whatever that disc is for you, get a bunch and you're good to go! As for similar discs to the ones you mentioned, I would say Starfire, Thunderbird, Tesla, Wrath, H2, H3, Crush, Predator, PD, just to name a few off the top of my head from some different manufacturers.

Bingo. PD, Thunderbird, Beast, Wraith, possibly an Escape or Saint/Pro.

However, the PD is quickly becoming a strong stable to my bag. S-Line beats in quickly enough to get different flights and still holds that flight for a good long time once it's worn a bit. My main two in my bag are a 174g S-Line and a 163g S-Line and they both are saving me strokes each round. More trustworthy than the Prodigy I've been addicted to for 3 years now and feel GREAT in the hand.

Starfires

Pros are all SLs and good for distance lines

Stars and Champs are Starfires and good for OS shots.

I've never thrown a PD. I always thought they were a Thunderbird with a little harder fade and I've been content with Thunderbords for a few years....although I've never cycled them.

Might have to try a PD.....

As already mentioned:

PD, OLF, Wraith

You can cover a pretty decent range of stabilities out of the box with any of those molds, depending on the weight and plastic. Start getting some wear on the star and pro versions, and you can really cover the full range.

PDs will work better if you are a Teebird kind of player. OLFs will work better if you are an Eagle type of player. Thunderbirds will work better if you are a sheep.

lol...what if I am an XL fairway player (but not into the discraft distance drivers...)

Definitely Orion. XL is a turn and fade driver. Like an Eagle. Like an Orion.
PD is a straight to fade driver. Like a Teebird.

Yeah yeah yeah. They all develop turn as they beat in. But there are differences and OLFs are for "line shapers".
