USDGC 2023 - 25th edition

Ricky now with an 87 footer, a 60 footer, and a 49 footer..... has not missed a single C1X putt... and he's now at -4 after that 49 footer for bogey.

It's like today's script called for drama on #18.

When it comes to soccer, I pretty much hate VAR. I think it kills the flow of the game, and doesn't always seem to get the right answer anyway.

That said, Holyn's 1st OB on 18 is really stuck in my head right now. Looking on IR, there is no way that disc crosses in, and by the time they all walk up there, this could be known by video review. I'm super excited to see her get a big win, but it seems a bit tarnished to me. Anyone else feel that way?

I don't honestly know this...was there any chance this could have been ruled a misplay with a retrospective score adjustment?

I don't believe so, no. They played it the way the rules dictated. Spotter could not see definitively, and it was too close to call from the tee. Player gets benefit of the doubt. There should have been more discussion I believe, unless that discussion occurred off camera before they arrived at the location. In order for video to be fairly utilized, it would have to be used for every player every shot.

This is how disc golf has always been. It is self officiated by the group.

Perhaps one of the rules gurus can chime in...?

The difficulty lies in fairness - are we going to have cameras available every hole so every card can receive that kind of precision with their calls? Or are the lead cards the only ones privie to the benefit of video replay to ensure the sanctity of their outcomes?

I'm sure the DGPT is highly interested in fairness.

Fair.

Although, during the first round coverage, the cameras followed Eliezra Midtlying into the scoring tent, where they seemed to capture some discussion of a misplay on that card (not, as I understand it, from Elie herself, although I don't know for sure).

If a misplay is brought up apparently by officials in the scoring tent after the round, there must be some mechanism in existence for scoring revisions after the fact. Was the misplay in question picked up in real time and attested by witnesses, caught on video, or other? I don't know, because DGN cut away from the discussion and promptly dropped it.

If it was some sort of an eyewitness report leading to the discussion, then the question of level of scrutiny on a given card, which you raised, becomes apt again, doesn't it?

I have no idea what you're referencing so I'm certainly curious.

Video and outside witness...other than cardmates, players or officials {in given situations} cannot be used for a ruling.

I.m 90% sure that Holyn would have taken a 6 at worse even if she had made the re tee. .

I am not so certain of that. She would have had to take 4 shots if she had reteed in order to score a 6. In her previous 3 rounds she scored 4, 5, 5.

Well 90% might be high. . .but she really only made bad shots om 18 in R4. . first was disaster bad...2nd near OB again. . 3rd OB..
Just BAD ..she knew at the tee that par would be OK. . .just thow a putter 4 times and place in the middle of the fairway. . .no way KT makes an Eagle...and she had never even birdy the hole before.
But even IF KT makes her first birdy (as she did). . .par is ok..the ONLY thing you cant do is throw OB..and Holyn almost threw every shot OB!
