Have you seen this MoFo? Golf Mahal?

I'm sure lots of people in this thread would disagree with me, but I see a lot of room for improvement in the Mahal's design.

What specifically? I'm not saying it can't be improved. I just think it already has a lot of great features and I don't know of anything that I would change.

I'd like to see better coverage from the fly. And sewn in rare-earth magnets so you can flip it up and lock it back down quickly.

The biggest qualm for me is the utilization of space, in that the space above the discs more or less wasted. I know that there's pencil storage and stuff there, but it seems like it could have been put to better use. The Grip and similar designs were built from the ground up for the purpose of DG and employ a much more efficient design, whereas the Mahal looks like they had a great yoke system, bolted on a standard style disc golf bag, and added a couple tweaks here and there.

There are a few other areas I see that could be improved, like having more rigid/insulated bottle holders, and less fiddly straps dangling around, but the use of space available is the biggie for me. The Mahal is no doubt a great bag, but if it were redesigned with a little more thought, it would be even better.

I agree with the comments about the straps and more rigid waterbottle holders. The extra space above the discs in the main compartment doesn't bother me. I can stick a big towel in there and know it wont fall out if its wet or raining. I would like the side compartments to go farther up the main compartment though, more storage and the bag would look less like a jetpack when fully expanded. Also, a designated pocket for a hydration bladder would be great. That said, I still wouldn't trade my Mahal for anything else I've seen available.

This is a great idea, pretty easy to sew too. Just get a pair of hematite stones from the local hippy store and sew them on in! Super strong natural magnets.

I would really like to see a padded handle. Something else to keep in mind is their warranty. Anything they add to the bag is another potential point of failure so it has to last. Every additional component must be built/added with the warranty in mind. That would add additional material/manufacturing cost on their end which would then increase the sale cost on our end

I can see where you are coming from but I do have a few thoughts. I definitely agree that this was made as a backpacking bag, not as DG bag.

The straps? Can be solved with rubber bands, the straps are part of why the bag is great, very adjustable for the best fit.

Water bottle holders? Totally agree, that would be a nice add. I normally have a koozie so I don't really notice.

Overall design? I think at that point it's more of a new bag than a "refresh". I like the design as is and would be sad if they did away with it to make a more grip-esque bag. I think those changes are large enough to warrant it being a new model.

Hmm. Well, I know how I'd sew a few rare earth magnets into the fly/flap, but how would I attach the anchor magnets to the body of the bag? Sew them to the front of teh putter pocket? Somewhere else on the body? How woudl I attache them to the main body that has the rigid internal framing?

I'll guinea-pig this if I can get some good input. I live in a good test-region for a rainfly mod...

i bought my bag new this past summer and it comfortably fit three putters (2 wiz and 1 aviar).

Maybe I'm just being a diva, it feels like it takes quite a bit of effort and I don't want my putters grinding up on each other when I take one out

I emailed them a few months ago about the blemished models and asked about color choices, this is what they said...

"As far as I know we have no plans to build any Multicam or other patterned Mahals at this time. "

I carry 3 in the putter pocket. 2 aviars and a wiz. It was tight a first but it's stretched out just right.

To attach the anchor magnet to the body, maybe take a spare piece of fabric as a patch, and just use that to make the "pocket/cover" for the anchor. I don't know where exactly would be the best spot.

In the main compartment
(2x world/2x giant/2x havoc/2xPD/4xTeebird/M4/Buzzz)
In one side pouch
(glo buzzz/ glo buzzz os/ glo zone/ MS warden)
In putter pocket
(2x blend warden)

Wanted to show some pics of what actually fits.

this leaves an entire side pouch open and leaves enough room for a large towel in the pouch with 4 discs in it. This also leaves both of the zippered compartments open on the outside next to the cup holder. Still loving this bag! I also carry a grip mini that obviously holds less for quick rounds ( grip mini ) or for simpler courses.

I'm still thinking about another bag. I picked up a Prodiscus Jetpack backpack that I just don't care for, will probably sell it in the marketplace before ever using it. I'm pretty happy with my Grip A14, but could use some more storage for tournaments.

A few questions for the Majal:
Will the side pockets fit a softshell jacket?
Is there anywhere to put putters where they can be reached when the bag is on your back?
Is there a rainfly? It looks like the bag will start collecting water inside if it's raining with the open top design.
Is there a place to hold a stool, umbrella, or disc gator pole?

Thanks.

Will the side pockets fit a softshell jacket? Absolutely. probably two. You can also roll it up and attach it to the bottom portion of the bag that holds a stool or umbrella (it's beneath the putter pocket)
Is there anywhere to put putters where they can be reached when the bag is on your back? if you have monkey arms and can reach the putter pocket, maybe likely not though.

Is there a place to hold a stool, umbrella, or disc gator pole? yes, beneath the putter pocket there are two straps with clips that allow you to clip the straps around a stool/umbrella and then tighten them so it doesn't move.

Thanks.

I'd add the following (I love my Mahal -- best single DG expenditure I've ever made):

A few questions for the Majal:
Will the side pockets fit a softshell jacket? Absolutely. probably two. You can also roll it up and attach it to the bottom portion of the bag that holds a stool or umbrella (it's beneath the putter pocket) You can carry tons of stuff in this bag, or you can shrink it down for lightweight rounds. I've carried layers, raingear, pikles oftowels and thermoses enough for long cold rainy days.
Is there anywhere to put putters where they can be reached when the bag is on your back? if you have monkey arms and can reach the putter pocket, maybe likely not though. I've put putters in one of the side pockets and been able to rech around for them before. Not perfect, but it works.
Is there a rainfly? It looks like the bag will start collecting water inside if it's raining with the open top design. If you look at my picture you can see that the cover of the bag is rolled up and velcro'd at the top Rain cover works like a charm. Spray it every couple months with sealant and it is dry as a bone. I'm still working on sewing rare earth magnets in for easier open and shut.
Is there a place to hold a stool, umbrella, or disc gator pole? yes, beneath the putter pocket there are two straps with clips that allow you to clip the straps around a stool/umbrella and then tighten them so it doesn't move. You can also attach an open golf umbrella on the side, which provides a canopy for you and your whole bag on rainy days.

You will never regret this investment, unless you really like travelling light more than any other conveniences.

Thanks.

Well said my friend.
