Best course in El Paso drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 17, 2022 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Each hole has three different pin placements. Some of the shorter pins give you excellent shots at scoring aces. The longer pins present excellent challenges that are difficult to score under par.

Course managers do a great job of moving the baskets around from time to time giving the course a fresh feel.

The tees are great and the signage gives you everything you need to know.

The park doesn't have too many geographical features but the course's design maximizes what features are present. Specifically, the course uses the park's trees to great effect forcing golfers to get creative with their throws.

The park is maintained well. The grass doesn't get very tall before it's mowed. The park has numerous trash barrels throughout and they're emptied regularly preventing the park from getting too trashy.

Cons:

There are no elevation changes since the park is completely flat.

For first timers, this course can get confusing. A few fairways intersect and a few holes share baskets. I recommend getting a hold of a map or using the UDisc app before playing. It'll save you a lot of time and trouble walking around figuring out how to play the course.

Depending on the time of day, the park can get very busy with non-golfing traffic. A lot of runners and walkers use the path around the park. Picnic tables are in play around 9, 10, 14, and 16. Some park goers will hangout in the shade under the trees where several fairways are located. Sometimes people will use open space fairways for soccer and football.

Other Thoughts:

Be aware, during the warm months, the park's sprinkler system runs for a while in the morning. Yes, the lawn needs to be watered, but if you don't want to get soaked, don't play in the morning.

Reasonable course for this area 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 26, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

While the designed layout is nothing super exciting, the designers were able to construct several interesting (and even multishot) fairways. The true benefit of this course is that it is located in a large single-ish use area where safari will work well. This is important for the disc golf poor area of El Paso!

Cons:

There's a lot of crossing fairways by design and the shot selection is a bit repetitive

Nothing Special 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 14, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Nice tee pads and signs on each hole
- Good new baskets

Cons:

- Several holes share baskets and tee pads
- Many similar, long, boring shots
- Mandatories made just to add some difficulty
- Shots required to fly near paths/picnic tables/parking lots
- Confusing layout on the back nine

Other Thoughts:

This is a flat course in a city park that leaves a lot to be desired. There are some nice shots that require good placement, such as landing zones and low ceilings, but for the most part it is fairly boring. Several holes share tee pads/baskets, and holes 9-14 are a jumbled, criss-crossing mess. The park space seems to be under-utilized, and shared baskets/tees would make a busy day or tournament a real issue. Good for El Paso to get another course, but I think they missed it on this one.

Hole 1 is a nice starting hole through a bunch of trees.

Hole 2 has a mando (fun) that requires a long left-to-right throw to get to the pin in one shot.

Hole 3 is another throw through some trees, although a forehand requires you to throw over a parking lot to get to the pin.

Hole 4 is an ace run at a basket straight away.

Hole 5 is a shot similar to hole 3.

Hole 6 has a mando that forces you to throw right next to a walking path, which can be dangerous. Low-hanging trees make this one tough to par.

Hole 7 goes across a street to a basket on a hill.

Hole 8 is a tight shot across a street to a basket next to the rec center.

Hole 9 is next to a fence that requires a huge forehand skip right next to a picnic table to get around the corner. Throwing one inside the fence leads to a hassle of a retrieval.

Hole 10 is a long shot to a pin that is close to a picnic table.

Hole 11 is another long shot along the street, with OB to the right and large trees guarding the pin.

Hole 12 is yet another long shot to an open basket.

Hole 13 is another long shot with two double-mandos to add difficulty.

Hole 14 goes across the street to 10's basket, which is again near a picnic table.

Hole 15 throws to hole 8's basket by the rec center; can be an ace run with a nice straight shot.

Hole 16 throws right over a picnic table to a tight green by a parking lot (near cars and porta-potties).

Hole 17 throws to hole 4's basket from a tee pad that is heavily covered by trees. There isn't really a shot here.

Hole 18 goes to hole 2's basket, another long, open drive.

Nice Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 14, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Cement Tees, Markers for each Hole, good tree cover and challenging mandos

Cons:

Not many negatives here - just be aware of the heat. Flat.

Other Thoughts:

It is a very new course; Tees are really nice, and holes are marked well. Even though the park itself is very flat and open the trees here are used well making throws challenging. Most of the holes follow the tree cover giving lots of shade and making for some great mandos.
A good balance of long and short holes are available - beginners and intermediate players should both find a good challenge.
After having played this course a few dozen times - the first 10 holes are really the best. The back 9 is mostly a tiring back and forth mess of open shots. 13 has two unnecessary Mando's that attempt to over complicate an already tree protected circle. Normally the guys I golf with choose to skip the last 7 holes and create alternative lines for the front 9.
Knocking my rating down to a 3.5 from 4...
