Pros:

Great challenge of a course with the island hole 6, the 500 foot creek hole 8 and the tight out of the pines blind dog leg on 9. Beautifully maintained City of Glencoe park. There is a great full map of the park by the practice basket. Both hole 1 and hole 9 are right near the parking lot. The course is easy to navigate with signs except between hole 4 and 5. Nice painted mando signs on a few of the holes(Hole 3's mando is unique). Dual concrete tee pads and dual pin placements on some holes it looks like. There is pride in the course that is evident.

Cons:

Hole 4 to 5 is a long walk. No signage to point you in the right direction. It is evident that flooding is an issue each spring with the creek and island hole. I wouldnt be surprised if a couple holes are unplayable in the wettest parts of the year.

Other Thoughts:

A couple "ace run's" in hole 3 and 4 short. There are also a couple long holes that you can give it your all and still need an upshot. Younger trees have been planted that will grow to really add some challenge to a couple holes. Fairly new redesign. In time it looks like it will really be a top notch course in the area.

Quick and fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 18, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course gives adequate targets with interesting obstacles.
It was worth the drive just to play the sig hole ... No. 6.
I like the variety with openness and challenging trees, water and river.
It would be a blast to camp and play discs and bean bags.
I would say the course is very navigable, and the walks from one hole to the next makes perfect sense.
It's fun to be in a park with baseball, a pool and water slide. It's a cool park in a cool small town.
Signage, concrete pads, baskets, obvious TLC and maintenance are phenomenal!

Cons:

I think 3 is the logical rating because no matter how it's laid out it's going to be only so testing of skills.
Scores won't vary much between many of the players. There just aren't many tough tests. The layout doesn't lend itself to dogleggs.
It's a flat area, so elevation doesn't change much.
The way it loops from baskets one to nine might seem to lack imagination, but it's a good layout.

Other Thoughts:

Glencoe obviously takes great pride in this awesome course and Park.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 10, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Lot of sentimental value being a home town course for many years. Course is marked well, and park is well maintained. Lots of opportunities for aces, and an overall good confidence booster.

Cons:

3 or 4 holes play through the park, and when crowded can become almost unplayable. very short, flat, and overall not very challenging. Baskets commit roadside robbery on a regular basis, as it is a homemade prototype.

Other Thoughts:

As far as nice disc golf courses go, this one doesn't make the list, but it is still fun for what it is, and is responsible for getting a lot of folks in nearby surrounding towns into disc golfing.

Considerable Improvement over "old" course. 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 15, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-minimal other courses in the area, allowing anyone who likes disc but doesnt travel much a chance to get out and learn the sport.
-The new holes are much better, no longer requiring you to throw over picnic tables in the park or right by a playground.
-The course has new baskets, which dramatically improve on the old makeshift ,rusty "junkers" that were out here before.
-The new holes add distance onto a course that was relatively short in the past.
-Concrete pads allow for sure footing.
-The course is in a great spot when it comes to convincing the wife/sig other to go throw. Very kid friendly in that there is a waterpark/pool right on the grounds, allowing dad to throw while they have a good time as well.
-A nice "island" like hole on this course, really gives it a signature hole, something it definitely didn't have in the past.

Cons:

-Seems to be a fair amount of "needless" walking to get from one hole to the next on this course. Honestly, I could have seen them finding a way to sneak in a few holes to tie other holes together.
-The signage is a little rough when it comes to navigating to some of the distant next holes. I have played plenty of times on this course before the updates, and had to walk around aimlessly at points trying to figure out where to go next.

Other Thoughts:

Back in the day before the new course updates I rated this course a 1.5...After the new hole additions, all concrete pads, new baskets, signature hole I must say this course is considerably better than it was in the past, in fact I'm willing to double my rating. I will not go as far as saying go way out of your way to hit it up, but it is definitely a course to play if you plan to be anywhere within 30 minutes. Great improvements, a somewhat local course to me that I can now feel proud of. Good work!

Oak Leaf 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 19, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

+ Nice signage, distance, hole number and mini map on each hole. Big map at beginning
+ Ample parking, 1 starts just south of the lot and 9 finishes just north of the lot.
+ Navigation is pretty easy (See Other Thoughts)
+ Pretty good job avoiding other park activities (See Other Thoughts)
+ Good mix of wooden/open and long/short holes
+ #6 is certainly the signature hole, an interesting take on an island hole (actually a peninsula)
+ On hole 8, water becomes a very real threat as the fairway is 500' long and fairly narrow.

Cons:

- On 5, if you shank your drive like I did, You'll end up in soybean fields that at this time of year eat discs.
- Hole 6 requires a fairly long walk around, I would like to see a bridge closer to the tee. It would help with lost discs and backtracking.

Other Thoughts:

After #4 walk past the softball fields and you should see tee 5 to the left
After #5 walk to the right of the big building and you should see #6.
Bizarre mando on #3. There is a forked tree with a mando sign pointing left, right, and up <-^->. I suppose if a group decides they're all gonna do the same mando, it makes sense, but I'm kind of lost here
4 mandos in 9 holes seems a little excessive to me. Even 3/9 is a lot.

9 Hole Course W/Funky Homemade Baskets! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 19, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Oakleaf Park is a small little playground set between some ballfields and river. The course does play very close to a playground at times so caution is urged. It's flat and easy, simple to navigate. It has these funky, homemade baskets that are slightly longer than normal. They're just kinda funny looking but catch well enough. The teepads are dirt but very smooth. The signs are black/white pictures imbedded in molded fiberglass resin. This is a different look for signs from anywhere I've seen before. The course plays 6 holes out and the last three coming back in.
# 6 is an interesting thread the needle shot.

Cons:

#7 coming back has the river and tall grass on the right. I'm not sure if the risk/reward is worth it for a simple Pitch & Putt course like this. Seems a little extreme for this little course to me.
# 's 4 and 5 play dangerously close to the playground. Use some extreme caution if there are small children playing here including skipping these holes if neccessary.

Other Thoughts:

****Look for the # 8 sign on the side of the small building**** It's kind of hard to locate.

This course has it's quirkiness with it's funky old baskets and it's unique tee-signs but basically it's just a little playground Pitch & Putt. Enjoy it for what it is. Unless you're out on a course-bagging mission, you could probably pass on this one.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 28, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

is a great starter course (where I started 12 years ago)
nicely kept park
bathrooms and shelters on site
hole 6 is unique

Cons:

the reason I stopped playing this course on a regular basis is because of people traffic within the park. its just a dumb idea to design a course that plays through picnic areas and a playground. also people always seem to park their vehicles on the grass right on the course! dumb course design and dumb people who park on the course pretty much ruined it for me (couldnt tell you how many cars/trucks/suvs that we've hit accidentally with discs)

Other Thoughts:

stop and check it out if you're in the area but dont by any means go out of you're way for it....but if you do play it, play it in winter

Servicable Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 11, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course is located in a nice park with lots of other possible entertainment. There are baseball fields, playgrounds, and camping (I think).

The course itself is about average length for a 9 hole course. A mostly flat and lightly wooded course makes it fairly easy for most intermediate to advanced players but will challenge most new players and some intermediate players.

Cons:

Some holes are very close to the playgrounds so you have to be careful with your drives. It's very flat, not particularly long and the hole setup does not require a variety of shots. If you are an intermediate player with a good backhand, you'll dominate this course.

Lots of long grass along some holes means a pretty good chance of losing discs.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, worth playing if you live in the area or happen to be out this way but not worth a special trip.

Update is Much Better 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 27, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

+Brand new baskets to replace the 'rusty chains' that used to be here.
+Dual tees that are large and cement.
+Course now skirts the park and uses better land around the edges instead of being too close to the middle of the park and campers, playgrounds, etc
+A sweet island hole (actually a peninsula) with a tree for a bridge.
+A good mix of trees and slightly more open holes. Most holes have some trees but none have too many.
+River for a water hazard on 2 holes.
+The course makes you throw different shots to score well. You need both control and distance.
+Hole length varies a lot. Hole 2 and 8 are legit par 4's and other holes like 3 and 6 are shorter ace runs with some obstacles.
+Signage to come
+The flow is pretty good. There is a little walk between 4 and 5 and then a shorter but still potentially confusing walk between 5 and 6. After 4, follow the baseball field towards the woods on the left and you will find the tee. After 5, find the tees near the pond aiming onto the island.
+Great use of the land. I wouldn't have thought that you could put this fun of a course in this park.
+Still a few ace runs despite the length.
+Practice basket near first tee.
+Adequate parking lot, many other things to do in park including playground, small zoo, waterpark, picnic tables, sand volleyball, ball fields, and there are many bathrooms. You can also camp at the park if you want to.

Cons:

-It is pretty easy to lose a disc in the river, especially on hole 8. The island hole is also a potential disc eater. One person on my card at the first league at this course threw 2 in the water on the same hole.
-No signage yet.
-The road is right next to holes 7 and 8 and many good lines go right over the road. Be aware of cars and pedestrians.

Other Thoughts:

+This course is a must play 9 holer. It is much more challenging than most 9 hole courses in the area between the distance, trees, and water.
+This course had a very high fun factor for me.
+Leagues are Sundays at 6PM. 5 dollar entry + 1 for ace pool. Adv and Int divisions.
+I may update this review to a 3.5 depending on how the course looks when it is %100 done and worked in a little bit. Signs, kiosk at start, some branch removal, etc will help make this course even better.
