When my brother said he wanted to start playing, I gave him two putters - so he got four:

The bag I use for that is filled with mostly putters, mids and beat, understable discs I've either used or found. If you use x-outs you can fill it with the discs that are the easiest to throw and the person playing won't get caught up on whether or not the disc is a putter, mid or driver.
The disc that I have that almost always gives the best results for a brand new player is a 159g DX Stingray. I have an Aurura MS, an Element and an Element-X (both H plastic, I think) that people seem to like, too.
