New DIY $25 Backpack Bag.

Currently using a soldier bag with the DD / Ogio straps, but have 3 older Ogio laptop/backpacks laying around. Do you feel you are maxed at 17 discs + Putters? I don't use the dividers in my soldier bag and have quite a bit crammed in there, most of it is probably unnecessary for every day use, but I like to have it just in case. I have been toying around the idea of using one of the bags I have around for something different, this maybe my motivation.

The 17 I have in there now are as many as is comfortable at the moment but the limiting factor is not the width but the depth. I'm pretty sure if I adjust the frame so that the horizontal cross piece (closest to the shoulders) goes toward the back of the bag a tiny bit I could get a few more in.

But, honestly, I've got more in there now than I would really need to carry. It's been raining ever since I added the frame so I haven't taken it out yet. I'm feeling like an idiot walking around the house with it on. :)

I just ordered this Oakley Bag for $30 ($40 after upgraded shipping and Tax) and hope to build a PVC frame and turn it in to a disc bag. It looks similar to the jar top from Target but I'm hoping the build quality is a little higher. I'll update with pictures once it arrives.
Pm'd you, but I'm sure we'd all like to hear more about how this turned out. I'm sure the Oakley bag is of better quality, but the drawstring top looked odd. Give us an update please!

Sorry timed the shipping bad the bag just arrived today. The bag it self is super high quality. padding on the back and quality of the fabric are top notch. But I'm not sure it is the best disc golf bag. I made 2 different frames one that held the discs closer to the top of the bag. and that was really nice to grab discs out of but made the bag very top heavy. so I lowered the discs to the bottom and now it is as sturdy as a rock. the pockets on the side allow for storage and also drink holders on each side. there is a pocket in the front for your putter.

I got one built a frame and it felt nice but I still have the XPG (cabalas) bag in use so I sold it brand new with frame for $30 will prob pick up a new one just to have in case my bag gets really tore up. The thing that I like about this bag is the two 32oz bottle holders.

Okay, I have a couple questions for whoever feels like answering them.

Is there enough size and quality difference in the elite to make it worthwhile, or is the regular jartop just as good?

My second question is, has anyone tried to put a seat on the top of the pvc frame, or is it too hard to get the discs in and out with one on there? Cause my brain is working overtime, and my heartrate went up a little when I found this thread..so please answer before I go crazy and buy 7 of each, and 12 sticks of pvc!

Maybe I should clarify on the seat. Something like the padded one added to the top of Gorilla Boy bags

I would just extend the pvc pipe's height so a disc could slide in & out easily. I drew this up really quick. Don't judge my awesome skills. http://i779.photobucket.com/albums/yy74/rtschultz45/frame_zps699865e5.png
You wouldn't use the angle joints, only 90 degree ones. and the ones are colored red to show they're the same height, just longer on the one I drew. Then all you do is cut a piece of plywood, slap on a foam pad, staple some waterproof or resistant fabric over it, and attach to pvc frame. WHAM-O.
Hope that all makes sense.

So glad that picture didn't come up, but now you have the link at least. that's what 36 hours of no sleep will do.

Put my smaller frame in last night, and went ahead and cut some taller pieces for the seat, but i'm a little bit short on pvc, so haven't gotten to try it out yet.

As for the padded top, i cut out the small pocked on top and took some chair padding (just reupholstered all of our pews at church, so had some free scraps!) inside it. will see if i can find another piece or two around here in a few to keep from buying another stick. so far, i think it'll work just fine. think i can make it removable and store the longer sticks in the laptop compartment.:D

I ordered the standard size bag from target online and waiting for it to get here. I will weigh all the options that everyone has used here and come up with something. Pictures when I'm done. Thanks for all the info everyone

I'm trying to tell myself I need to disc down, then I stumble across this thread, GRrr! I think I'm going to have to get me one of these.

Just tell yourself you need a backpack so you have room to shed a layer in the cold/wet months.

Unless you live somewhere warm. Then I got nothing for you.

Found one on clearance for 13$....... Have a nice bag with harness, but couldn't resist. It ugly orange and pink plad pattern , and still couldn't stop my self from buying..... Stupid dg addiction!:wall: it is a great little disc back pack for the price. Might have to try some Rit dye on it. Can handle the orange, but pinks gotta go!

Prob a better choice than a messenger bag, can't go wrong at $13. At $25 and spending more time and money making an inner frame.........?..??

$13 is an awesome deal, but I feel effeminate just looking at that picture.

During hot summer rounds I need a change of clothes, but not likely to carry that with me :) The suggestion of an extra layer has merit though.

2 things come to mind..at least it's less likely to be stolen and since October's coming up, say it's best cancer awareness.
