I have to write a fairly extensive research paper on a sport for my Physics class and, of course, I chose disc golf. I have to write a paper that is at least 3 typed pages long explaining any 5 concepts of physics and how they are applied in disc golf. I also need to create charts, measurements, etc. for these concepts.
The five concepts I chose are air resistance, projectile motion, work, and Newton's First and Second Laws. These aren't necessarily set in stone though.

Anyway, DGC, I figured I'd leave a post here for anyone interested. If anyone knows of any information/resources that would be helpful I'd appreciate it! If not, maybe we can get an interesting discussion going.

Do some digging, there are threads with "Physics" in the title that has lots of discussion. Some of the stickied technique threads also have what you're looking for. And any thread over 15 pages in the technique section probably has some physics discussion as well.

Or you could just search through JR's posts and I'm sure you'll run into something soon enough.

i found this to be an interesting read

unfortunately those 5 things won't describe disc flight very well.

you'll need to include angular velocity/acceleration/momentum, moment of inertia as it pertains to weight balance on discs, as well as coefficient of friction for air drag.

the link homebrew posted should cover all of those things, plus a lot more. there is also a very good thread here on DGR about disc physics.

Paging JHern. Seriously, if he doesn't chime in you might consider pming him. I believe he has a degree in physics.

hey! he's not the only one! I got my B.S. in physics in 2004 from Central Methodist University 8)

but yes, JHern has shown that he has retained more of that knowledge, I've been working in instrument engineering for the last 2 years, and was a wet lab chemist for 4 years before that, so I haven't used a lot of that stuff since college.

I accept paypal, PM me for paypal details and I'll write your paper.

2

You best be glad Jesse doesn't know binary, you say that about me and I would whoop your ass.

I'm also a member of the nerd got-a-physics-degree team, but my fluids courses took place in the mid-90s.

superdrive: If you have to write random binary, I'd appreciate it if you could at least make sure it's divisible by 8. =P

Incidentally I'm working on my CS degree with a minor in math and physics.
