Portland Oregon with Family

Advice on what area to stay in Portland for a few days in August needed. My son and I want to play Pier Park, Milo and maybe Hornings. The girls like shopping (thrift stores, hipster...). Any thoughts? We don't know the city at all.

Will you have a car? Where are you staying?

Those 3 courses are all in opposite directions of one another, with Pier being the closest to the city proper. Depending on where you're planning to stay, both Hornings and Milo are about 40-45 minute drives outside of the city.
