West Coast Road Trip - Help needed

G'day everybody!!
This August, my girlfriend and I will be embarking on our inaugural trip to the USA. We'll be spending about 4 weeks on the west coast touring California and some inland locations. I'm hoping to play as much golf as possible, and utilise courses as possible camping grounds.

That's where your advice comes in, I need a list of free/cheap camping spots ideally situated on/near fantastic courses?? FYI girlfriend is NOT a passionate camper, shower facilities would be an added bonus

Alternatively if you would like to host a couple of amazing couch surfers for a night or 2 in August, let me know.

Turtle Rock park in Markleeville is about the best you could ask for. Awesome campground on site with showers. One of the top courses in the state (or anywhere) and you can walk from your campsite to a tee in a minute or two (you may be starting on hole 11 or 16 depending upon the site). Did I mention that the hot springs state park is 10 minutes away? Bring a bathing suit as the park has a hot and cool swimming pool. Will be a bit crowded at the state park but well worth it.

If you are heading north in to Oregon or Washington I could throw you some recommendations, but if you plan to stay in California your entire time I will just let those locals advise you. Hope you have a great time!

Not to mention that's a stones throw from Lake Tahoe! Bijou & Zephyr cove are can't miss courses on the South shore and you have to check out Lake of the Sky in Tahoe Vista on the north shore. The Lake Tahoe area is absolutely stunningly gorgeous.

Aside from the great recommendations near Lake Tahoe. You might be pleased with New Hogan Lake and Lake Amador.

+1 for Tahoe. We camped at Turtle Rock a few years ago, and it was fantastic. So nice to be able to walk to the first tee. The surrounding courses mentioned above are absolutely top notch- after playing here, all we talk about is going back.

oregon

i have to recommend coming to oregon for whistler's bend, from there you can day trip to crater lake, and head down the southern oregon coast.

Tahoe are has a really good golf scene and along the way hit Shady Oaks and Finnon Lake!!! You could try to get into Birds of Paradise in NorCal, might was well hit up Highland Springs and the whole Ukiah scene on your way. Stafford Lake, Napa and Golden Gate are all worthy contenders. Delaveaga, Black Mouse, Ryan Ranch, Coyote Point are all worth a trip too as well.

I recommend playing and camping at

Coyote Point DGC at Lake Casitas.



The campgrounds closest to the course are I and M. Both these campground areas at Lake Casitas have showers. Fantastic views of the lake at M.

As already mentioned, the 27 hole Sky High Disc Golf Course at Mountain High has a campground. You can make reservations at Reserve America. I am pretty sure they don't have showers. This is in the mountains at over 7,000 ft high(2,100 m), so it stays cool in the summer.

There is also camping on site at two San Bernardino Regional Parks that also have disc golf courses.

If Lake Tahoe is not on your schedule, consider adding it. They have a variety of quality courses and there are also casinos on the Nevada side of the lake if you are into gambling.

These all appear to be brilliant suggestions. Sky High is well and truely on the list. 22-23 of Aug may be a few days before my arrival, but once plans are more concrete I'll definately be in touch.

To give you all more scope on where I'll be, this is whats a definate:
-car booked out of Salt Lake City early August
-I'll head south via moab, grand canyon and vegas
-explore LA and a bit of south cal before heading up the coast taking in as many destinations as possible
- at San Fran we'll head East towards Reno and obviously Sky High, as we make out way back towards Salt Lake to return the car

so it appears i got sky high and turtle rock mixed up, once Im heading east towards reno I'll be exploring the Tahoe area. so 22-23 of Aug will be to late for me to play the tourney.

Take a side trip to Monterey/Santa Cruz on your way up to SF. Play CSUMB (Worlds layout) and Ryan Ranch. In Santa Cruz play Delaveaga and Black Mouse.
In the Bay Area play Golden Gate Park (mid week, early) before the crowds. Lagoon Valley Park in Vacaville is good, but play early before the winds pick up....it'll be 2 minutes off the highway on your way towards Tahoe.
Grass Valley and Nevada City have some great courses as well.
Most of the courses in Tahoe area are must play, I prefer North Tahoe Regional Park and Zephyr Cove. Go up I80 to the north shore of the lake, play around the lake, then head down to Markleeville to play Turtle Rock.

Moab...good choice. Make sure to see Arches N.P. and Canyonlands, those places are truly epic. And make sure you play the Base Camp Adventure Lodge course in Moab while you're there.
