Salient Discs DGX Disc Golf Shoe

They are basically clones it seems, aside from the fact that the "Salient" branded version looks to be made of cheaper materials compared to the Hornet GTX, and and possibly an older model, as someone had stated earlier.

By the looks of it, you can just look up the Salomon shoes.

I am a bit surprised - I expected the rip-off nature of the soles and the entire shoes to get more play. The side torsional structure is virtually identical, it seems, as well. Is some Asian company just ripping off the Salomon or are they allowed to reproduce the Salomons as an off-brand sort of thing?

What's the provenance of these shoes? How much actual "design" went into them? It seems like none.

Scott addressed some of the design elements, including reinforcements to the heel and side wall for stability, earlier in the thread.

I don't think it's terribly surprising to see this based off an established shoe. It gives both the new shoe company, as well as the established one, a chance to make some more money. I think the uproar from that standpoint is unnecessary.

It's not based off an established shoe, it is a rebranded established shoe, which would be fine were it not for the horse crap in the op about it being "created" for disc golf along with some of the other grandiose statements

It has the same sole as an established shoe (which, considering it's a Saloman shoes, isn't necessarily a bad thing). It's not the exact same shoe.

Despite my bag falling apart in two months(lol no joke, they replaced it and i sold it instantly) i was still willing to consider these shoes. The two for 135 option is gone for a 'warrantied' pair that costs nearly twice as much? Yeah, im done. Salient is a trash company and these shoes will probably fall apart in two months, much like the straps ripped off my bag, i would reckon these will fall apart with any kind of regular use.

Best of luck to the guinea pigs who try these out first, i really do hope they hold up but after seeing Chris's lack of customer service and my experience first hand with the catalyst, i have very low expectations~

Scott, here's a warranty question. If I ordered a size 10 originally, would I have the option to change sizes on pairs 2-4? I'm often between sizes, especially with running type shoes that can be a little narrower than cross trainers. I know your advice was to order up a half size but I was curious as to what the official policy is. Thanks!

This will include a LIFETIME warranty with a max of 3 replacements so in total 4 pairs of shoes for $150 or 37.50 each.

Your Math is incorrect. The consumer would need to factor in the shipping costs since that is not part of the companies warranty. We can use your $15 flat rate shipping costs, double it for shipping to you and back and then add that to your $37.50. Brings the total to $67.50 per pair of shoes. Still cheaper than most shoes outright but when you weigh it against any other shoe companies warranties you fall way short since they don't ask you to foot the bill for shipping or ask you to pay $150 upfront.

Adding the warranty option just says one thing to me. That the company knows that the shoe is cheap and it will fail (most shoes will fail weather they are cheap or not) and that they are just doing this warranty process so that when people beach about the quality of the shoe they have no ground to stand on since they had an option to pay double and get a warranty.

Using the $15 shipping each way, it's actually $60/pair.

150 shipped initially
+30 shipping for pair 2
+30 shipping for pair 3
+30 shipping for pair 4
---
240/4 = 60

Yup, either way its way more than 37.50 per pair. I got lazy with my math

Great question, you can absolutely do this. I was thinking the same thing yesterday. If you order a 10 and they're a bit snug but will work just wait till you need to use the warranty and then request a 10.5.

Also I was aware my math was off. I did not want to guess a shipping charge as it varies from location to location so I was letting the customer figure the shipping charge on their own. Plus it also depends how fast you want to get the shoes to salient. I sent a bag once from Maine to Florida and spent $12, I took the cheap option and it took 7-10 days but saved me $30. I personally always have back up shoes so to me it would not matter. The DGXs are smaller and lighter than a spinal tap so the shipping box would also be smaller; in turn the shipping price would be less also.

Hopefully everyone had a great weekend and had a chance to play some golf.

I brought up the Shipping almost immediately after the '150' price was dropped and a few people said "stop bashing salient!!1!!"

which really isn't, was more or less pointing out that blatantly, you're not getting four pairs of shoes for 150 no matter how you look at it.

And if you pay $15 to ship a box of shoes, then we need to start bashing you as well ;)

Should cost 6-10 bucks to ship a package that size from your end, include return postage inside the box and you'll save money that way as well. Just ask them to use the same box. Problem solved.

Yes, I would need to check on the RS. At my work RS is cheaper than say paying $15 to ship and then $15 to ship back making it 2 separate transactions, however when you ship the shoes out and include an RS tag than it is not the same price both ways. I will see if I can dig that info up.

not really true with apparel at all.

Tools? maybe...

Kinda off topic but when you mention tools all I can think of is harbor freight. If you have never been check it out. Great place if your in a pinch and need that 1 tool you will never use again. I use to be a honda mechanic so I guess I know my way around tools.

No bashing, just pointing out facts like you. People need to read between the lines. So far salient has failed at everything they have put out, cept for maybe the basket but thats not their design. How many chances are people gunna give this company. I really hope this is the nail in the coffin for the company.
