The 2011 Pro Worlds is scheduled for August 7-13, 2011 in Monterey Bay, California (Santa Cruz, Watsonville, and Monterey). This year, Pro Worlds will feature 432 competitors from around the world, with 200 volunteers and course marshals plus a staff of 35. Four courses will be utilized (DeLaveaga, Pinto Lake, CSUMB-Oaks, and Ryan Ranch), with competitors playing one 27-hole round per day at each course (Tuesday-Friday). Semi-finals will be held Saturday morning at both DeLaveaga and Pinto Lake. The finals will be held on Saturday afternoon at Pinto Lake, and the awards ceremony will immediately follow at Pinto Lake.

The 2011 Pro Worlds website (2011proworlds.com) is now up and running, with information regarding events, schedules, lodging, and other useful information being added all the time. Please let us know if you experience any problems with the website, or if there is anything in particular you'd like to see posted on the website that isn't already available.

We need 200 volunteers. Click here to sign up. Those who join us will become an essential part of one of the best volunteer corps ever assembled in the sport of disc golf. To ensure the highest quality and level of commitment, each volunteer is being asked to invest $60 when they sign on (a modest investment that will be recovered many times over). Volunteers will be treated like gold. Also, a special volunteer barbecue and tournament will be held on Sunday, 14 August. Many touring pros will be on hand to serve the volunteers as a way of expressing their gratitude for their service during the tournament. As a tradition, TDs in Monterey Bay are famous for assembling some of the finest swag bags imaginable, and at 2011 Worlds we're pulling out all the stops for the assembly of an epic volunteer bag.

We also need sponsors to help support this event. Our sponsorship plans each offer an excellent way to advertise to all participants and spectators. We have four sponsorship plans available (click an option for more information): Par Sponsor: $250, Birdie Sponsor: $1500, Eagle Sponsor: $10,000, and Ace Sponsor: $25,000. Click here for further information and a complete list of sponsorship plans.

Feel free to post any questions or suggestions regarding 2011 Worlds in this thread, I will be checking back regularly.

We look forward to seeing you in August!

I planned on going to california during that time anyways because my birthday is Aug 9..what a great way to spend my birthday with the best players in our sport

We just had the Otter Open at CSUMB last weekend, the first PDGA tournament this year to test drive one of the Worlds courses. The event highlighted the positive qualities of the course, while very much accentuating all the work that still needs to be done to get it to Worlds level.

If anyone plays one of the Worlds courses in the near future, we'd very much enjoy hearing your feedback/critique on the courses, and where you think we might have the biggest improvements.

I think Dela is really shaping up with all the work being done lately. Make an awesome course even better.
Pinto has not won me over yet, although I have not played there lately. The main issue was poison oak (but I hear it is better) and the middle mid is a bit too open for me. But there is only so much you can do with the area.
I love Oaks, new tee pads and I think it will be great.
Ryan Ranch has also come along way in the last year.
Looking forward to the Worlds.

Here's a picture of Tom Schot clearing out poison oak recently at Pinto Lake...

...amazing how thick that stuff grew over time, some of it is as big around as a tree trunk! This is a pretty straightforward job, but you have to be careful not to get the sap from the freshly cut ends of the poison oak branches on your skin. That's what got me that day, although my reaction was pretty mild.

We're having work days out there every Wednesday, if anyone is interested in pitching in...and if you're sensitive to poison oak, there are other jobs to be done as well.

I liked out and did not get PO, just saw a bunch. I would love to help out but, my stupid job gets in the way of the Wednesday work days. I am keeping my eye on the schedule for some weekend work days…then I'm on it.

Ryan Ranch in Monterey is hosting a work party on Saturday, March 12, 10:00am-1:00pm. Here's the invite...

Bring your tools, your talent, and we'll provide the jobs to do, BBQ lunch, Irie tunes, and a great time for all. Please pass the word and come on out. We will be improving all aspects of the course and making some changes. Please attend if possible, see you on the course!

And here is a Facebook page for the event, where you can RSVP...

Invitation letters to compete in the 2011 Pro Worlds went out today, March 15th, to about 1000 PDGA pro players in all divisions. These players will have 30 days to exercise their option to register, March 15 - April 14.

Registration for Worlds will then open up to all registered PDGA PROS on April 15 through May 14. If you are currently registered as a pro but did not qualify through last year's point system, this is the time to get registered. Please do not wait if you want a spot.

We strongly believe this tournament will fill up and encourage all pros to register prior to May 14th.

On May 15th, registration will be open to all players, pro or amateur, currently registered with the PDGA. Registration will officially cut off on July 22nd unless it fills up sooner, which we think it will prior to May 14th.

In the past, tournaments on the West coast have filled up in a couple of hours, such as the Beaver State Fling. We are already getting numerous requests to be put on a "wait list" based on the assumption that this Worlds will fill up during the pro registration period.

Yeah, my wife was in the picture on the front page, digging post holes. It was inspiring today, I saw Steve Lonhart, Marty Hapner, and Daviar Thomas all mowing grass at DeLaveaga, these guys continue to pull their weight after decades of involvement.

That was me next to your wife on the front page. She was cool, and can dig a nice hole (man that sandstone is tough) and mix a mean bag of cement. I was glad I could help the course out in some way after putting in so many rounds. I'm also glad to hear workdays are every afternoon/evening now, as I will be able to help a bit more. The course is looking great too.

I wanna volunteer, I can't commit to every day though.

How does that work? I could do 2 or 3 days.

Let me know what the details are if you can, or who I should talk to.

Thanks!

I can't commit to everyday either....I was just relaying what I read on the DeLa forum.

When I did show up to help, there seemed to be no real game plan...but once things got rolling stuff got done. So I would contact someone on the forum or go to the parking lot and talk to Mark or whoever is working the van that day. I would be down with helping out more too and evening are better for me. Let's do this.
