By the Testimony of Two Witnesses, Pronounced Dead 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 9, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Although no longer a course, it's a nice practice area.

-Chains: Currently 5 DISCatcher Sports: 3 orange, 2 blue. Four of them are in good shape, the other one not so much. I stopped and putted at a couple, and they catch well. I'll draw up and post a map showing where the 5 baskets were located on my appearance for the CSU student who wants to use them.

-Terrain: Really nice terrain. Slightly hilly, with spots of thick trees, tunnels, and open spaces. It's a shame this course is dead, because I think it would have been a good nine-holer if it utilized the trees and slopes.

-Safari: You could put some nice safari holes together here with good baskets and good terrain. Probably not too busy at any time other than intercollegiate gametime.

Cons:

Nothing beyond those three pros.

-Tees: No longer exist. I found tee marker 3 discarded next to the path, and tee marker 7 in a location that could not have possibly ever been a tee.

-Flow: There is literally no flow. Using the course map, I walked through the original layout, and found 5 random baskets in parts of the course. I think basket (8) is in its original position, but none of the others are. Thus, I don't think this can conceivably be called a course with no guidance on where to throw from or where to throw to other than your personal fancies.

-Parking: I don't know how strict the university is about parking. I was running an errand on the opposite side of campus where I knew it was safe to park (1 mile away), but there may be no such convenience near the course. I would only recommend the area to students and staff at CSU or the neighborhood.

Other Thoughts:

When I read Mr Frosty's review, I admit that I was skeptical, thinking that maybe he had missed something. Nope, he had seen it all. This "course" is no longer such, featuring only 5 miscellaneous baskets. (I can well imagine why it has fallen into disrepair: my brother, a student then staff member at CSU for the last 5 years, says he never saw anyone using the baskets.) It's a bit of a shame, as I think the terrain could create a really nice par-27 course. As is, I'll shortly change this to a "Practice Area" if no readers object, and heartily recommend the area only to CSU students and staff who play casually.

At Least The College Is Nice . 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 24, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

I came here right before the dawn on a Friday morning . Clayton State University looks to be a small college setting just off of I-75 , right below Atlanta . The Rec center and some of the athletic fields sit to your right as you drive through part of the campus . There were 5 baskets that I found 2 blue and 3 orange . The University looks great .Nice bathrooms in the rec center . That's about it .

Cons:

According to the map I printed off , this is also where the whole disc golf course is supposed to be . I went into the Rec center just before 8 and asked a nice student where I could find the start of the disc golf course , but she knew nothing about disc golf . I went outside and followed the map , walking the course from hole 9 to where 1 should have been .The baskets are the temporary ones you find at temporary courses , only cheaper . 2 of them were sitting next to or against fences , and the other 3 that I found were dispersed into where part of the course supposedly was . I found 2 small rocks that I guess were there to make a tee pad for #9 . Nothing on the rocks , just rocks . No NEXT TEE signs , no idea where to stand for the baskets that were up . Disc Risk : Little , but does it matter ? I safaried this course for about 20 minutes , making up 9 holes out of maybe 4 playable baskets , then left . I can't imagine that they moved or put away these baskets because of another athletic event going on ( In January ? ) .

Other Thoughts:

I really have trouble considering Clayton State having a disc golf course . This is more like 5 portable baskets that you can set to your liking and teeing off . I only gave it a .5 because I liked the idea of mixing blue and orange baskets on every other hole . Maybe the baskets are here to introduce a few curious students to the game . I always think that a well thought out University Disc golf course can be used to help showcase a school to the locals and some touring families or fellow disc golf fanatics . My Recommendation : At present , I would tell everyone but the hard core course bagger to avoid this place if looking to get in a round . Not worth the effort , the time or the gas . There are lots of quality course both to the north and south of here .

Clayton State University 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 19, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Has tee signs only indicating hole number

Good mix of open and wooded fairways

Some holes have slight changes in elevations

Quiet - no one else was playing when I was there

Well-maintained

Free parking

Cons:

Missing tee sign for hole #1 - makes it difficult on where to start...consult the course map

Missing basket for hole #6

Cheap baskets

Course design and flow could use improvement - #7 and #9 baskets are in fairways of other holes, fairways of holes 4&5 and 7&8 crisscross each other

No next tee signs

Other Thoughts:

This course is the only one in Clayton County and is unfortunately not a destination course to play...nice looking campus but not a quality course. Hole #6 has been unplayable for at least 3 months now and the course doesn't seem to get any TLC from the school. I recommend skipping this course as there are better quality ones in the surrounding area.

Meh 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 20, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Has nine baskets, and nine seperate tee off areas.

Quite.

Cons:

Criss crossing fairways.

Easy.

Backtracking.

Easy to throw at wrong basket on #1 and #5.

No directional signs to next tees.

Can be difficult to locate tees.

Other Thoughts:

First off let me say that for what it is it's not that bad. Great course for practice and mid range shots.

The tee's alternate from orange to blue and the corresponding baskets are painted to reflect the color of the tee. This is OK on most of the holes but as stated in the Con's it's really easy to throw at the wrong baskets on #1 and #5 (because there are baskets in the fairway of these holes that belong to other holes!)

Highly recommend having a map, and only then will it be a bit more clear where the tees are.

I wanted to take pictures of the course but I was not allowed to without approval.
