Fun for Medium Players

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 1, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Two tees and two baskets on most holes. Cement tee pads that are amply large. Great tee signs at every pad. Very easy navigation. Two practice baskets space for putting back and forth. Plays on small rolling hills with a scattering of trees to force lines. Two other courses on site. DISCatcher baskets in very good shape. Plenty of parking. Restrooms available in season; port-a-potties in off-season. There's even a very small pond on #s 14 & 15.

Cons:

Little to say here. There was some ground water on #11, #13 and #16 but it had rained recently; otherwise drainage was excellent. I did have to consult the map for how to get to tee #12 after playing #11. With so many tees and baskets, you could get confused but the tee signs are so good (as is the map on this site) that I never went off course. Having the Massanutten Monster mixed in adds to the number of tee signs (but they are clearly labeled). The restrooms at the central parking lot were closed so I had to double back to the tennis court lot before starting my round. As is clearly stated in the Description, this is the for-fun course on site so experienced players will not be challenged.

Other Thoughts:

There are two other courses on site: Upper Meadows (which is completely disjoint from Lower Forest) and the Massanutten Monster which cleverly uses the pads and baskets from the other two courses to provide a real challenge. I unfortunately did not have the time or stamina to play the other two (so I will be back). If there were a lot of players, mixing in the Monster might provide collisions/confusion. But it's a great place to play. The park is not near any businesses/restaurants which made locating the bathrooms (port-a-potties on my visit) a priority. There was on near the tennis court (near the Meadows course) and one near basket #11 on the Forest course. I think I saw a few more but don't recall where. There were only three other people on the course on a Wednesday morning (started my round at 10 AM) and they were friendly. Some holes have only one tee pad; I think all holes had two baskets.
