Magic Mountain Disc Golf has a great thing going! Situated on the beautiful Magic Mountain Ski Resort, there is not only beautiful scenery, but also the incredible amenities that come with being situated at a ski mountain. There is Bathrooms, water, and food options on site. The grounds seem to be really well maintained, and despite the relative infancy of this course, it plays very well. Tee signs and course map provided are very helpful in navigating the course.

As far as ski hill courses go, this is definitely the best maintained course that I have played. Being in the mountains, there are plenty of cool rock features that have been incorporated in this course.

Variety - I threw many different discs on this course and was challenged with forehand and backhand shots, with several holes requiring unique shots. A good mixture of technical and open shots.

Elevation - Being on a ski resort, this course has ample elevation which makes it very interesting. Holes 15-18 are a blast, with 15 and 18 being true empty your bag type of holes. Awesome holes, but make sure you watch your discs carefully, as the rough on 15 can be dense in spots.

Holes 4 and 9 - While 4 is a cool hole, the uphill nature, hard right turn, and low ceiling make reaching the basket all but impossible. Hole 9 is a bit of a poke and pray, with a lower ceiling and elevated tee forcing players to throw through branches to get far enough left to reach the basket. In addition, players have to retrace their steps and walk back up 9's fairway to get to hole 10. This seems lie a filler hole that could be eliminated.

Hole 15 and 18 are listed as par fours, but should play as par 3's for most disc golfers (awesome holes, so not really sure if this is a con)

Tee pads are natural and very short, requiring awkward runups at times

Some of the distances on the front nine tee signs seem quite off, namely holes 6 and 7.

This course, while pretty solid, baffled me a bit in some ways. The front nine was advertised to be a beginner nine and the back 9 to be more challenging. If anything, the front 9 played just as difficult as the back 9. In the future I would like to see a beginner nine hole loop added on property adjacent to the course, and some of the current holes lengthened. This course definitely lacks challenging multi-shot holes that I have come to expect on higher rated courses. Maybe lengthening some of the current holes, and replacing hole 9 with a difficult multi shot par 4 or 5 could remedy this problem.

For me, this quality of golf at this course is much closer to a 3.5 than a 4, but the friendly staff, wonderful amenities, and beautiful scenery easily push this course to a 4 in my book. I look forward to returning, as the work crew seems eager to improve the course.

The 1st review on this page is spot on, so I will not be redundant and do a hole by hole recap. I will say this place is fantastic and the amount of work, thought and care is evident. Tight technical lines, old growth hardwood forest with gorgeous greens and spectacular views makes this a must play course. Excellent use of topography and natural geographic features. The last 4 holes are all downhill bombs, which will require control and precision, but it sure is fun to throw a midrange 500+feet, no ticks,or bugs, disc losing potential is minimal, no water hazards or thick rough off the fairway. ski slopes are mowed and finding discs is not an issue.

As this is a course in its infancy I do not see any cons. If you are out of shape, this course will destroy you. I am an endurance ultra runner and after 2 rounds I was beat! This may not be the 1st choice to bring a beginner-novice player, the lines are technical but fair. Multiple shots are needed to do well, lots of forehand and anny shots required.

Having played 2 rounds with one of the designers, I am extremely confident that this course will continue to improve, and ongoing work will happen. They have a punch list of items that they know will improve play, which includes, b-tees, cleaning up overhanging limbs, selective cutting a few holes that border on throw and pray in terms of the gap to hit. B tees for the newbies would be a nice addition as well. I plan to come back to magic mountain and find it is well worth the hour drive. On site bar and grill is a huge plus as well. I fully anticipate being able to update this to a 4 star review as the work continues and it begins to get played regularly. If you are a fan of mountain golf you will love this place!

PROS:

THE MOUNTAIN OMG. The Views! Excellent use of terrain. Utilizes lots of unique wooded areas, open trail crossings, upshots, downhills (some tight and techy, some huge and gusty) and double fall line fairways more often than not. This course will require every throw you've got and a few that will send you home scratching your head or practicing arm speed drills that week. F9 takes about an hour and is a good warmup mix of big drives, flex lines, small elevation changes, forehands and tight touch shots. B9 is a tough, tough set but in two distinct ways: 11-14 are hard because they're wooded uphills that require max arm speed and accurate lane hits to capitalize on. 15-18 are hard because they are big *downhill* elevation changes and long throws that can be very susceptible to uphill wind deflection- it's tough to club down when you have a 600' drive in front of you!

The amenities are also a strong Pro. Clean grounds (wooded fairways are IMMACULATE and the open areas are heavily mowed), foot bridges, good signage, nice tee boxes that are well maintained, paths between holes are well marked or weedwacked with red arrows below the baskets pointing the way and diamond marker blazes. All matching Prodigy T1 baskets across the whole 18 which take no BS and I absolutely love. Trash cans at about half the tees which is also nice.

THE. BAR. The Blackline Tavern is located at the beginning and the end of the course, and Hole 1 as well as Hole 18 is fully visible from anywhere in the bar or on the deck. It is freakin sweet to come off a round and step inside an awesome lodge bar for a cold brew with some wings, watch a few cards start up or end their round on a huge hole while you eat and there's nowhere else around to do that. This bar is also where you will pay your greens fees, buy a season pass, rent discs etc. The people are friendly but most bar staff knows nothing about plastic or DG.

Dog friendly with several water crossings and opportunities for the pups to cool off.

Weekly league play is Saturday @2pm, kid/family league is Thursday at 5 until daylight savings time, and every friday night there is LED night golf starting around 8 (adjusting for earlier darkness as the fall progresses)

The newness of the course is probably it's biggest fault. There are a few areas that could use some side thinning or higher up pole sawing but with time lanes will be cleaned up and buffed out. Much of this has already been addressed at this time, but there is more extensive cleanup planned for the fall and spring.

There are a few wet spots here and there from the chairlift building crew's vehicles, but it's easily avoided in most cases.

No real pro shop yet, but Magic foil Prodigy discs are for sale.

Sporadic bar hours

Course is a hike! Full round is about 3 miles, 7000 steps and 50 flights of stairs per my activity app so be ready to sweat and leave the Zuca home unless you want to watch it tomahawk down the mountain.

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR DOGS AND PUT YOUR GARBAGE IN THE TRASH CANS!

The course was just finished and it's still being buffed out but this place is a truly unique short-list type of course that will only get better from here.

Would increase rating to perfect if there were multiple tees or a 9 hole short course. I did increase the rating on this update as a result of successful and dependable LED night golf being implemented as well as continued progress on the course cleanliness/ absolutely dialed maintenance now.
