City Park Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 6, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Baskets catch OK (see cons)
-Makes good use of most of park area
-Mostly stays away from other activities (see cons)
-2 Baskets each at #4 and #5
-Decent map (Helpful with minor navigation issues)

Cons:

-Someone powder coated the baskets BROWN! (in other words tougher to see than the steel) (See Basket #1 pic)
-Shelter could be in play on #6
-Playground definitely in play on #8
-Tee signs (DGA "Peel n Stick" [TM]) fading badly
-Natural tees
-Long basket on #5 could look like #1 or #3 basket
-Finding tee #2 was a minor issue

Other Thoughts:

McComb Park in home to a rather typical park style 9 hole DGC in Shenandoah, IA. 9 natural tees with the DGA signs play to 11 baskets. While the map shows alternates for all 9 holes, there are baskets in both positions on #4 and #5. The signage is fading badly on many of these signs. I don't know who had the bright idea to make the baskets even tougher to see by making them brown, but here we are (See Basket #1 pic). There are a couple of hazards to work around as well. #6, the long hole at 410', shoots toward one of the two shelters. A booming, yet grip locked RHBH could head that direction. #8 is the most problematic as it shoots right over the edge of a playground, a big issue for the RHFH thrower here. The baskets, the signage, and the hazards keep down the rating down for me. Upgrade the signs, baskets and add concrete pads and you're looking at a decent course. I would still play again, if in the area, just need my new glasses to see those baskets....

Monkey in the Middle 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 26, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a simple 9-hole course with, straight shots, a few trees, and some slight elevation. The layout is simple enough to follow along with. The park was very clean and well maintained. This course does have some decent tee signs and a bathroom. There is parking along the course on one side behind a group home.

Cons:

If you get lost here just go to either the outside edge of the park or the (monkey in the) middle where most of the tees are at. That is where the tees are located. The layout can be a bit dull. You can't complain much though, they did get a course put in here and that's great. The tees are dirt and grass and the ruts are stating to wear and become uneven. It could use some more trashcans, but still not a dirty park. There were quite a few people walking through here even though there isn't much here but the course.

Other Thoughts:

The Fun Factor just wasn't there for me. I mean, there was maybe 2 holes that I thought were interesting, due to the trees, but that was about it. I can see that this is a great way to introduce family to the game, but it may not be worth a road trip.
