Very Fun Course! (Sligthly Confusing) 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 17, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Course is in great shape thanks to Rattlers keeping it clean. Port-o-potties before Tee #1, which is great. Loved the shot lines through this course, They maximized the elevated tees as much as possible, which I enjoyed. Liked how the long tees were elevated compared to the short tees on the flats on many holes.
My favorite hole - 16th the hanging basket hole. 1st time I've played one (got my only birdie of the day).
Signature hole - the extra Tunnel Hole after the 4th hole! One of a kind - with a 270-280 foot drive thru a large storm drain tunnel! Creativity to the max here! Love it.

Cons:

The confusion at the 14th to 17th holes. My wife actually quit after 13 holes due to the confusion and it getting dark, (but not die hard me!). Luckily, locals were playing on 17th hole and helped me out to get to the dual 14th/17th tee boxes. I got lost trying to find the 15th Long Tee and walked around the mini-park green area in a circle - checking each tee as i went along - until I realized I missed the signage of my pad as the sign was on the other side of the tree. But I regrouped found 15th hole - nice elevated tee shot.

Other Thoughts:

Love the creativity to fit this course in drainage wash and part of a park. Even though it was confusing at times - with multiple baskets and the hole 14-17 layout, I'm sure this course gets more fun as you play it more. You can basically decide to play whatever basket you want on each hole - whether you can see it from the tee or not. This is a course with some tight widows, but you can open it up and throw big drives too! Other hole highlights:
-Liked the elevated blind tee off of the 1st hole.
-Loved the 7th tractor tire hole - elevated Hyzer shot!
-18th is a tough challenging hole - OB left & bush city on the right. There's a small skinny safe landing ara in between, (you don't want to get in the bushes - spent about 15 mins looking for my Emperor!). Found it! Can't wait to play this hole better next time and play this course next time and have more fun - not that I know so much more about the holes & baskets!

Most organized signage 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 15, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Excellent signage everywhere. QR codes are available at each hole to scan so you can see drone video footage of where each basket is. There are signs on each basket directing you to the direction of the next hole. Multiple baskets and tee pads adds to the variety of shots as well. Despite being in a canyon for most of the time, it seems pretty well maintained.

Cons:

If I had to choose a negative criticism, it would be that I felt that I didn't have to throw many FH. None of the holes made me think too hard about shot selection, as I was able to play the whole course with mostly BH shots. But you can tell this course is well thought out and people really took care in designing and maintaining the course.

Other Thoughts:

I'd easily put this on the level of kit carson and morley, although I like those courses more. Mountain pride is an excellent DG course.

Pros:

-Mountain Pride Park is the pride of the Murrieta Rattlers disc golf club. The only 18-hole disc golf course in the Temecula/Murrieta area, it is very well kept and a well thought out design making maximum use of the land available.

-The course starts out with the signature hole, a shot of about 350' down into the canyon with the basket right in front of the creek. The layout follows the canyon clockwise before winding its way back up to the top at the end. Four holes on the back nine cross fairways, but visibility/safety is not an issue.

-Most courses that follow a canyon in a clockwise loop are very heavy in RHBH hyzer shots. At Mountain Pride, this is not the case. Baskets are placed strategically behind trees, bushes, and mandatories to force challenging shots.

-Variety is excellent. Present are a handful of short putter shots like #3 and #9, technical shots like #4, #7, #11, and long open drives (#10, #13, #14). The park has a good deal of elevation change, yet no hole feels like a filler. The elevated tees on #1, #5, #6, #12, #14, and #16 make for a lot of fun.

-The course is extremely well taken care of. Every hole features two concrete tees, colorful tee signs indicating pin placement, large benches, and Innova DisCatcher baskets. The current photos on this site from 2012 make the course appear rather unkempt, which is certainly not the case. There's also a fantastic practice area with two more baskets near the parking lot.

Cons:

-About half the holes have two baskets. At long, challenging courses on a lot of land, two baskets per hole can work. I think this course, however, would be better without it. Holes get rather close to one another, and keeping score gets confusing when there is not a clear Long and Short basket. Moving the basket location on a weekly basis would be better in my opinion.

-Located in a steep canyon, the course probably fills with water during storms. Even a foot of water in the creekbed would impact several holes.

-The above two points are rather trivial. This course is as good as it gets given the land available. Distinct fairways and sheer natural beauty are what holds this course back from a higher rating.

Other Thoughts:

-The course is much more than what you might first expect. It's a solid workout, and a big bottle of water is recommended.

-This is really an excellent course. The short tees are suitable for new players, and the long tees provide a robust challenge for better players. The practice area and maintenance of the course make it a great experience. There's course offers plenty of variety for locals, and is conveniently located just off I-15 for out-of-towners.

Pros:

Mountain Pride Park is located in Murrieta, California and is a beautiful well designed course. This course is designed in a huge residential drain. A lot of the holes on the front nine consist of playing next to the side of one of the walls of the drain. It feels like you are playing next to a wall. Other than that they have Discatcher baskets concrete tee pads for the most part and great signage.

Course Routing: First off this course has amazing signage and locations to where the next hole is. Tee signs are in full color as well. The people that designed this course did a fantastic job with tee signs.
There are 2 different tee pads on each hole but some even have 3. I could see this course being a tournament course.

The front nine is much easier than the back nine for a couple reasons. #1 it can get very hot in the summer in Murrieta California which makes is extremely hard to play this course with minimal shade. On the back nine the holes get longer and the sun beats down harder. I would recommend a early morning round even because it can get VERY hot in the middle of the day.

Pictures are very outdated. The Murrieta Rattlers disc golf club installed new tee pads on most of the holes and put in new tee signs as well as baskets. The people designing this course did a great job renovating and putting in multiple tee pads and baskets. Each hole has 1 or 2 baskets in play which can offer some variety if you are a local.

Mountain Pride is challenging for every player. Each hole offers a new type of shot forehand and backhand which I really like. Some of the old rubber tee pads are still there and they must have forgotten to take them out.

Cons:

Mountain Pride Park has a few cons too. For playing in a drain this course is pretty good for what it is. Some of the holes could use a little more maintaining in spots. A lot of dead grass and long grass lies in the middle of the fairway.

Also the baskets were modified and lowered which is kind of weird. They put new poles in for each of the holes baskets. It also looks like the shrunk the basket and lowered the chains down so they touch the cage. Confusing but they still work pretty fine. I did find myself missing a few shots by hitting the cage or the rim but that could just be me.

Other Thoughts:

I stopped to play this course on the way back from a road trip and it was the perfect pit stop I needed. This course is beautiful and it is very well kept. Mountain Pride Park plays on the side of a highway which can get noisy but also is great if you need to stop to stretch and throw the disc around.

Favorite hole by far is number one from the short position tee pad. This hole is great because it is one of the only super down hill holes on the course. Some of the baskets are propped up on a tire which is cool but on hole #11 the tire was absolutely demolished.

18 baskets
Brick tee pads
Technical shots required
Well thought out course

Cons:

Hole number 4 I believe... I didnt know where the basket was, guessed wrong, ended up in the shrubs on shots 2 through 4, had a 25 footer for double, missed that and got a solid 6 lol.

Other Thoughts:

Not sure what else is around but if you are new to the area or just visiting it's a great course. Nothing to difficult. I got 2 birds, one bogey, and a tripple.... all in all they did a great job and looks like they maximized the space they had.

My new home course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 4, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

It's a great course with concrete pads on every hole except one that starts in the riverbed. It's a challenge for me at my current level as there are plenty of trees and bushes throughout most of the course to try and avoid. There are a few wide open holes as well for a change of pace after navigating the trees

Cons:

It can be scorching hot in the middle of the day. Shade can be found off and on throughout the course though.

Other Thoughts:

This is the closest full 18 to my house in Corona. It's a fun course. They a need a pro-shop somewhere nearby.

Pros:

ALL NEW PAVER PAD TEE BOXES ARE COMPLETELY INSTALLED ON EVERY HOLE!!! There's only a few more concrete pads that need to go in, in the next month or so. Very technical course, with a very WIDE variety of shots. The Rattlers are a great bunch that have brought this course a VERY long way just in the 1.5 years I've been throwing here.

Cons:

Really there aren't many negative points on this course. There are a couple remaining rubber style pads, but those will be concrete SOON. I really just wish I didn't live as far away as I do.

Other Thoughts:

Not enough can be said about the effort that the Murrieta Rattler's have put in to this course. It really is shaping into a TOP course in Southern California.

Pros:

Very technical course. Get to shoot across valleys. Lots of trees and brushes. I've been playing this course since before it was even 18 holes. Rattlers keep updating, adding/changing holes and new tee pads. Can't say enough how awesome of a job they are doing. Recommended to anybody going through that way. Totally worth the drive, luckily only 15 minutes away from my house. I hit the tees early since I have two youngens under 2 but they play doubles Saturdays and have tourney every 3 sat of month I believe. Finally have bag tags now as well. Benches have been added as well. Go play guys...good time

Cons:

Rattlers set up on certain weekends would love a shop nearby to get some new plastic. Possibly a water fountain would be good add. Other than that not a lot of cons except if you haven't played course before lots of bushes so if you aren't experienced might be looking for your discs.

Other Thoughts:

More people come play! Great course between all the great san diego courses and Wrightwood

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 9, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The Course is maintained by the Murrieta Rattlers Disc Golf Club and they have done quite a job with it this past year. Multiple tee pads on 13 holes. Multiple pin placements. A great Map displayed off the parking lot. Take a photo with your smartphone or print the one here. Tee Posts at all 32 pads showing distance to pins. Small signs under most baskets to direct to next hole. A mix of concrete, rubber and carpet for tee pads. (a project for all new pads is underway) Excellent use of terrain designed into this layout. Elevation changes, raised pads, a good mix of hyzer and anhyzer shots. Mountain Pride will challenge even the seasoned pro! Convenient stairs down into canyon from 1 long.

Cons:

Tee pads are a mix of materials and sometimes slick if wet. No water at the park! Bring plenty of water.

Other Thoughts:

There are porta potties in the parking lot. Wear sturdy shoes as you will be hiking up and down dirt trails.

Pros:

Variety of elevations from pads to baskets.
Imaginitive design.
Long/short pads for most holes.
Challenging for all ability levels.
Holes vary from extremely wooded to wide open and just about everything in-between.
Murrieta Rattlers Club embraces the game, takes pride in the course, maintains a positive relationship with the city and hosts regular work days for course improvements.

Cons:

Holes 13, 14 and 17 are the only holes with grass landing areas for drives. Not much can be done about that, though, the terrain is what it is. Lots of dirt and debris (mostly broken tree branches) on the arroyo holes.

Other Thoughts:

Definitely worth the drive to play and I'm grateful to have a great course close to home.
Beginners need to take advantage of the short pads and play from there.

Great Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 5, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Good Amount of Elevation changes which makes for interesting shots
- Long & Short Tees cater to pros and ams

Cons:

- No Tee Signs or Hole Lengths
- Somewhat overgrown in areas making Long Tees pretty blind in some cases

Other Thoughts:

I really enjoyed playing this course. The elevation changes made for some really interesting shots. In some cases I did my best to judge the exact distance of trees or bushes in relationship to the pins but ultimately was wrong. This made the course feel a lot more technical than it looks and made for a really fun round.

I especially enjoyed the back nine.

Favorite Hole - Hole 12, Great long Hyzer shot over the valley.

Least Favorite Hole - Hole 4, Good Hole but I really couldn't see a great line without throwing a Hammer.

I will definitely be back.

Exciting addition to the IE 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 21, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Many holes offer difficultly shaped shots, the brush really grabs your disc and can lead to less than fortunate lies. The holes are good distances offering a few chances to air it out and pin locations require accurate shots to have a safe birdie attempt. Many blind holes on the first 9. Great use of elevation and land. I have been referring to it as the Brengle Terrace of the IE. Tee pads are carpet with a rubber strip on one side and can be slick.

Shorter tees provide an easier shot or shorter throwers while maintaining the difficulty of the hole. The locals were very friendly and helped guide us along. Very clean park with trashcans and benches in reach of most of the tees.

Cons:

Difficult to follow for the first time with no tee signs. Because of the blind shots it would be really difficult to find the basket if it was your first time playing. Tee pads can be slick as the trees keep moisture down low, covering the carpeted tees. Back 9 has many crossing fairways, some that offer large potential of being dangerous.

Other Thoughts:

We had a great time there. The club that runs it, Rattlers, have worked really hard to get this in and improve it to where it is now. Support them and the growth of difficult courses throughout the IE.

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 30, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

I played this park once a few months ago and had no intention of ever returning. then i saw the new review and went down too check it out. This is not the same course. its not even in the same part of the park as it was before. Its one of my new favorites. Challenging and entertaining. Reminds me of Shady oaks in Sacramento where I used to play often. Lots of trees and blind shots. Excellent layout with 2 pads for each hole. And there are 2 new holes so it's a full 18 now. Great locals pointed me in the right direction. Great course!!! And it'd free!!!

Cons:

There aren't any signs but the pads are marked with the hole # and an S or an L for short/long positions. Also each basket has one of of the bottom spokes painted orange and it points to the next tee. Very simple and effective method. There is some thick brush and I lost a new Z force in it. Actually I abandoned it cause i was running out of daylight and i wanted to play the whole course. It was worth it.

Other Thoughts:

Its amazing how much better the new layout is. I would say its the best course the inland empire has to offer.I played by myself and still had a great time. I'll be back as often as I can get away with.

Cons:

Its still a really new course so it still needs signs, concrete tee pads, brush clearing, and some benches. All this will come as the club raises funds.

Almost there 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 6, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

New course is more natural with many trees and large bushes. Most of the course is now located in the wash channel running beside the park. Much longer and more difficult holes, with some of the shorter ones yield few birdies. Lots of shade. Players are rewarded for hitting fairways as dense vegetation guards or runs beside most of the holes. The city has provided a few new benches and trash cans for the course. The tee pads have been stenciled to indicate number and short/long.

Cons:

No signage other than the course map on the info board. Some trash pockets left over from years of neglect. Some park user conflict is possible but usually easily resolved. There are possible fairway conflicts on several of the holes.

Other Thoughts:

Signage is on the way as well as some concrete teepads in the improved park area. The new course layout is both fun and challenging. Although there are fairway conflicts most of these are either well protected or are shots that will be in view by players at all times. I have played several worse congestion points around the state and feel MP is on the safer side of this spectrum(ever see Sun Valley on tournament day?).
