Birthday Trip 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 25, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Great tee boxes
-Great tee signs
-Good welcome sign
-Well maintained course
-Good use of azaleas and other bushes to make holes more difficult
-Very much enjoyed the water play holes

Cons:

-There is some water in play that will eat disks
-Confusing flow
-Gimicky obstruction placement on holes 9 & 10
-Many mandos due to the relative open nature of most holes
-Hole 6 could be dangerous if kids are in playground
-Close proximity to parked cars if a drive goes off course
-Some of the lengths on the tee signs were off.

Other Thoughts:

This course is located on a small college campus. We stopped in for a round during a birthday weekend road trip that included 3 difficult courses and this one. It was a welcome relief to enjoy a stress free round on this quiet campus.

The signage is excellent and gives good detail except for a couple holes where the distance is off a bit. We really enjoyed the flexibility this course allowed due to its relative openness. There are some very large pines on site, but branches are way to high to be a major factor. There were several places where flowering bushes were used to block certain approaches, and they were very nice. But, most of the technical challenge had to be manufactured through the use of mandos. The hole going into the baseball field was a bit absurd with the basket being placed directly behind the home plate backstop. The next hole would have been cool if the fenceline was OB, but since it was in play, it turned out quite simple. The basket across the pond squeezed in close to the shore was a lot of fun.

Is this a destination course? Probably not. Is this a stress free course that we really enjoyed? Yes! Play it if you happen to be passing through. I think you will like it.
