Palm Springs

Pros:

9 holes with Prodigy baskets in fair condition. Tees are carpet pads, a short and a long on every hole, also in fair condition. Course plays mostly on the edges of a small community park behind a neighborhood, offering some open shots, some shots with gaps to hit, and a couple of holes with water very much in play. Certainly not a pitch and putt. Good opportunity to practice some different shots depending on the hole.

Cons:

The potential for lost discs here is high because of the water, but also the private property that borders hole 6 behind the lake. Errant throws can potentially hit cars on 1 and 2 if they're parked down the road. An errant throw can also get into the playground area near 3, 7, and 8.

Other Thoughts:

I can see why the course has a higher rating, because of some of the challenges that are here. I disagree with the higher rating, though. There are some real safety issues that make this course closer to a 2 instead of a 3. The playground can really make some holes unplayable if it's busy. It's worth your 30 minutes if you're just passing by, as it's just off I-75 on the west side of Alligator Alley, but it's not a destination course or, in my case, one that I am going to play again. It's really close to a 2.5, maybe if the tees were brick pavers or something smoother. I'm right at 2.25, but I just cannot round it up. This is more of an intermediate to advanced course, and I would not take a beginner here.

Pros:

Short rec course that makes nice use of limited space in a public park. Should be an easy play for new players as there is not much in the way of difficulty. And since the baskets are visible from the tee, navigations should not be an issue. It also does a nice job of demonstrating the variety of the sport, with a few wide open holes, a few that make use of sparse trees to force flight paths, a little water and one wooded hole.
Many holes do border a fence but it is always on the right of the fairway so it should not trouble right-handed rookies much. The am tee also allows said newbie to avoid the water carry on 7, making for a mostly frustration-free round.
The course does offer something for the veteran as well. The course is a fast play and very close to the highway so it is an easy stop during a road trip. For the veteran, there will be a few ace runs, plus the decent-sized carry on 7 and a unique challenge in 5. The fifth hole is probably a nags but it breaks up the run of easy holes. It is too quick of a double turn with no landing area and isn't a shot that anyone could probably hit consistently. But it's fun and veterans aren't playing here to challenge their games anyways.

Cons:

At the same time, 5 is really inappropriate for the new players that will use this course. Too tight with a fence to the right and water to the left. And while 7 offers a safe route around the water, the water will be on the left potentially swallowing the discs of beginners.
But simply, it's a short course that shouldn't really interest anyone who has seen more than a handful of courses.
