Fun Rec Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 19, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

(2.359 Rating) A fun 9 hole course.
- FUN FACTOR - First and foremost, this course is no doubt a fun recreational course, as it has most of the typical elements of such. There are a bunch of ace runs with several holes around 200 feet from the short tees. The course is generally forgiving and doesn't punish errant throws (except for hole 5.) The odds of losing a disc is low, unless you epic grip lock one into the pond. There is hardly any overgrowth so little time wasted away searching.
- QUICK PLAY - I blew this course solo in 25 minutes. This probably translates for a group of 4 in under a hour.
- LOCATION - Palm Springs is a quick pit stop off the highway. No more than a 5 minute drive from the I75 exit.
- NAVIGATION - Very easy, as all but one basket is in view from the tee. I had no issues solo and first time.
- NIGHT GOLF - This is an ideal night golf course. Spacious fairways, few trees, little overgrowth and water hazards mostly out of play.

Cons:

Only 9 holes will have you wanting more.
- UNIQUENESS - like most 9 hole layouts, Palm Springs Park lacks the uniqueness of your average 18 hole course. All of the holes are mostly just straight runs of varying distance and with a few trees. The hole distance does very a little but it's still less than your average 18 hole par 54. Water is in view on a few shots, but really it only registered in my thought process on hole (5) where a bad tree ricochet could throw one into the water.
- CHARACTER - Only a few extras to go along with the baskets and carpet tees. There's posts with tee numbers and distance. There's a course map with league scores. There's also two sets of tees for pros and ams and this setup will also allow one to play 18 tees to 9 baskets if they choose. That's about it. It would be nice for the course to take the next step and add extra pin placements, a few benches and a practice basket.
- RAW BEAUTY - About average or a touch below. The pond is definitely a nice feature but the lack of elevation features and vegetation is a drawback in my opinion. A chain link fence along several holes also doesn't add to natural beauty either.
- PARKING - Not the greatest as it straddles a ditch. It was bone dry on my visit, so I wonder what it's like after a good soaking.
- SPACING - A pretty tight squeeze, so naturally, you'd be wise to keep your head up and aware when other groups are around.
- PLAYGROUND HAZARD - Hole (3) plays a bit to close to a playground structure. So you may need to skip this one when playground is occupied.
- WIND - very few trees in the park. So wind may be an issue. I was personally greeted with 20-25 mph gusts for my round.
- DIFFICULTY - Palm springs I think is a small touch below average in difficulty. There are a couple 300 footers from the back , but there are also several in the mid 200 range. Advanced players should be under par on the backs on a routine basis.

Other Thoughts:

Not a destination gem like Estero but still a very fun play. If you like the thrill of trying new courses, you'll probably very much enjoy this quick and close to highway, 9 hole course.
