Quick little course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 6, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Easy to navigate
Great new dga baskets
Quick play through
Well kept
Every hole is ace-able

Cons:

Tiny tee pads
Most holes missing signage

Other Thoughts:

Mostly short holes. That can be good or bad depending on who is playing. Nice beginner course. New baskets which means pictures not up to date. Pretty quiet area. Worth checking out but don't expect to be amazed.

Nice little course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 13, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great use of elevation. Holes are often positioned where an overthrow will find its way down a hill. Accuracy is more important than distance. Trees in just the right places to make you consider shot selection. Concrete tee pads, good signage, baskets in good shape.

Cons:

Played in a drizzle, but could see where a full park of people enjoying the playground and pavillion could be intrusive.

Other Thoughts:

Nice course, played it passing through, but would make it a regular course of mine if in the neighborhood.

Pros:

It has hills trees and other vegetation to give you a test of your throwing accuracy. I find this to be one of my favorite courses so far. its a nice step up from the one out in hartford which is mostly flat and lil to no vegetation.
This course also has a good round about way where the final hole ends up right next to the first hole so you can play over and over again without having to do a lot of back tracking.

Cons:

the hills and vegetation can definately screw you up which is what they are there for. the only real con is hole 8 being next to an actual golf hole as well. if the wind is mighty strong that day you may find your disc ending up on the golf green instead of near the disc golf hole. or in a sand trap. the tee pads are a bit small i found them to be about half the size i am used to but that being said there is plenty of distance behind them to give you extra room to tee off.

Other Thoughts:

This is definately a course id recommend for beginners and intermediate skilled players alike as it has alot to offer for being a small and tight course.
For a person who moved to sioux falls from omaha and is used to seymour smith park and aspen park this course is a nice small course to change things up from time to time when im not at tuthill.

Pros:

Course is well marked with good Tee Pads. It stays well groomed with thick rough if you stray off of the fairway. Good Elevation for a SD course.

Cons:

Almost every hole is short! The baskets are single chain and during the Spring/Early Summer, part of the course becomes unplayable, due to flooding.

Other Thoughts:

Good Atmosphere..This is the 1st course I've ever played that actually butted, directly, up to a Golf Course. I liked the diversity. This course is very short but technical and has a beautiful setting. There are no true "Water" hazards but if you stray from the Fairway you'll have to deal with thick rough. Plenty of Obstacles, including Mature trees, Bushes and a Roadway.

Great design to the course considering the Park size!

If you are traveling I-90 this is a great stop. It's only a mile off the Interstate and is a great refresher course. This is no beginner course yet can accomodate someone who is learning to play. A Pro can have a Hay-Day here and should easily shoot well under Par.

A definite stop if in the area! Enjoy Hole 5!

Pros:

-Lots of ace chances.
-Good signs and easy to follow.
-Clean park and disc golf doesn't get in the way of the rest of the park activities.
-Fast greens and elevation make for a challenge.
-Cement tee boxes
-Not too busy.
-Other activities to do in park.
-Bathrooms around hole 4.
-Good quick round, isn't going to suck up a whole afternoon.
-Adequate parking and located in a good neighborhood.

Cons:

-Short holes
-Tees are kind of small
-Baskets are of a cheaper variety of innova disc catcher.

Other Thoughts:

Hole 1: short, straight shot. trees on the left so if you are RHFH or LHBH it works well for you.
Hole 2: Straight and slightly uphill. as long as you keep it low you shouldn't have a problem. Basket on a hill.
Hole 3: Trees directly in front so you need to throw it right or left.
Hole 4: Short and straight but very fast downhill green!
Hole 5: Short and large elevation drop.
Hole 6: Back up the same hill and a little longer.
Hole 7: Flat and somewhat long-308 ft. Fast green!
Hole 8: Mid range and steep downhill. Fast green.
Hole 9: Short and slightly downhill. Right to left downhill fast green as well.

Overall this course is moderately challenging. Without the fast greens, elevation and persistent SD wind it would be easy.

Great recreational nine hole! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 15, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Recently updated to paved tees!
- Good signage, easy to navigate.
- Well kept and plays quick enough for a couple rounds.
- Park, soccer fields, picnic shelter and bathrooms nearby.

Cons:

- Even the new paved tees are kind of small.
- Not a lot for hazards. Only a barbed in fence area half way down the hill on #8.

Other Thoughts:

Worth a few rounds if you're in the area. Great nine hole!

Quick and Easy Fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 5, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

A short but decent 9 hole in a nicely groomed neighborhood park. Offers enough elevation changes to keep things interesting. Plenty of chances for aces on this course as well. There is pretty much no chance of losing a disc here unless you, by slim chance, crack it on a tree. This course is a great warm-up course before heading over to the more challenging 18 hole at Big Sioux DGC. A round should take about 30 - 45 minutes. Maps on all tee signs make this course a breeze to navigate. Children's playground, restrooms, basketball court, and soccer fields are accessible in the park also.

Cons:

All holes except for hole 7 are under 300 feet. Only real risks of losing a disc are on holes 8 and 9 as there is a fenced area with barbed wire along top which a disc could easily fly over if misthrown. Cement tees are a little short and no multiple pin placements. A little tricky to find my first time out since this park is tucked back in a residential neighborhood, but once you find it then it's easy every time after that.

Other Thoughts:

There is a dirt parking lot that is between the tee for hole 1 and the basket for hole 9.

Pioneer Park 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 14, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

There were signs at each tee pad. Each sign had the hole distance, par and a map of the course on it.

The maps on the signs made the course very easy to navigate.

The park was very well kept. There was no litter on the ground. The park grass was mowed very nicely.

Some of the holes had elevation changes. The basket on hole 4 was right after a dropoff.

Cons:

The tee pads were very small and were dirt.

The course did not offer much along the lines of distance. Only one hole was over 300' long.

Other Thoughts:

Playground, basketball courts, and soccer fields in park as well.

Hole 1 is on the back side of the course (by the soccer fields). You will need to walk through the park to get to it.

The baskets were installed very interestingly. See photo in photos section.

There are also restrooms in the park.
