Pros:
+ Scenic Vista is incredible, and just needs the more permanent ammentities installed. There's a chance I'll upgrade my score to a 5.0 once I venture back down and play with concrete tees and permanent signs.
+ Scenic Vista is wayyy out of the way. I took a windy, muddy road for a few miles through beautiful woods and farmland before reaching a stunning piece of property known as "Scenic Vista".
+ Scenic Vista Park is an old hunting ground that has been transformed into a phenomenal disc golf course thanks to designers J. Gary Dropcho and Jason Reynolds. Dropcho has designed several world renowned courses in Pennsylvania including Moraine and Deer Lakes. I believe this is his first design in a Ohio, and it really is a signature course for him out in Lisbon.
+ First off, the course has an awesome kiosk. You'll find a huge course map, a pavilion, restroom, and a practice basket. The parking lot is spacious and would work well for a tournament.
+ Three sets of very unique tees for every single hole. From reds to blues, you'll find a new unique challenge for every tee, even if some are very close to each other. I played a round from the reds and a round from the blues, and it felt like two different experiences.
+ Great mix in distances as well as elevation and tree coverage. From the blues, distances range from about 200' to the monsterous 1200'+ par 5 that is #7. The land is fully utilized without feeling too crammed.
+ There's something for everybody at Scenic Vista. You'll find plenty of long bomber holes for guys with huge arms. But if your more of a technical player, there's several holes that wind through dense woodlands. It's a perfect balance, there's never a dull moment on the entire 18.
+ This land is almost exclusively for disc golf. You might see a hiker every once in a while, but the disc golf scene has taken over a big chunk of the park.
+ A few of my favorite holes include 2, 7, 15, and 17.
* #2 is a fun downhill shot coming out of the woods with a pin in a beautiful meadow.
* #7 is the 1,200+ foot monster that sends you down a gap in the woods that looks more like a ball golf fairway. It goes downhill most of the way, with a slight incline at the end. 7 would benefit from a few trees planted in the fairway, but it's still an epic hole.
* #15 is another signature open hole with a sweet fairway and rolling hills. There's a drop off behind the basket.
* #17 has a basket right in front of a covered bridge that was built in the 1850s or something like that. If you send one too far, you could find yourself trying to put from the gap under the bridge.
+ There are bright colored tee markers for now that serve their purpose. Permanent tee signs are coming this month from what I've heard, but the current temporary ones aren't too shabby. Permanent tees planned for next year. Right now, tees are a mix of grass, mulch, and wood chips.
+ Playing the course twice, I discovered several new lines that I didn't notice before. Many holes have multiple routes to the basket, so you can pick your poison.
+ Brand new Mach V baskets on every hole.
Cons:
- So, the course is brand new so I was hesitant on heading down to take pictures and write a review. The tees aren't currently permanent, and there's some high grass and brush on several holes. But as the course matured and gets worn in, you'll have a 5.0 gem for the state of Ohio.
- Besides the fact that it's a little rough around the edges, there isn't too much to complain about. Here's a few things I've thought of;
- The field that hosts #2 - #5 could be a little troublesome if there's multiple groups out. A few holes run a little close together. That's an issue on a few other parts too, like 15 and 17 for example.
- I think #5 and #2 are way too similar. Both are downhill shots out of the woods to a basket in the meadow. My suggestion is to back the tees for 5 closer towards the pin for #4. The fairway is already carved pretty well, so have most of the hole play through the woods, then have it jet out of the woods towards the end. Maybe put the pin right by the path and gates. This would not only make the hole more unique, but it would make the walk from 5 to 6 less awkward and lengthy.
- The limbs on #12 need to be trimmed up a little bit so the disc has a route underneath.
