Pros:
Absolutely stunning views.
Elevation and steep slopes offer unique challenge.
Free to play.
Restaurants and beer houses located near a couple of holes providing facilities, water refill, food etc.
Decent baskets.
Beautiful wildflower meadows.
Discs loaned from the ski-lift station near hole 1,
Cons:
You'll feel it in your legs the next day.
Long hike up to the first tee unless you pay for the cable-car/ski-lift pass.
Spotters necessary due to wildflower meadow and roll aways.
Tee pads were uneven rubber mats.
Not beginner friendly (the slopes demand decent angle control).
Other Thoughts:
We got a bus (free with local B&B booking) up to the cable car station and bought a day pass up the mountain. The cable car takes you to hole 18 where there are some facilities. Then a ski-lift (same ticket) can take you up to hole 1 where there is a kids playing ground, restaurant, viewing platform, and access to other walking routes.
We played only once in glorious sunshine but unfortunately a summer thunderstorm rolled in the next day and we didn't want to be up on the mountain with the lightning flashing down.
The Zell-am-See area is a popular tourist destination and so there is a wide option of local places to stay and eat. The traditional Austrian cuisine is fantastic after the hike down the course.
It was worth the trip from Germany for the weekend. Really enjoyed it.
