The new 18 hole design is almost done drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 6, 2022 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Edited 7/11/22 Tionesta has gone through a redesign and is being turned into an 18-hole course that will be a par 57. As of today, the course has 10 holes that are playable and 9 of them have really nice concrete tee pads installed on them. I think you will be quite impressed with the pads. Have to thank the rangers for the installation of them as they did a great job. The property for the course is mostly flat and it is absolutely perfect for a cart if you have one. A little bit of elevation comes into play on a few holes but nothing extreme. By far one of the easiest courses to walk in PA. The holes play through open areas of the park that were already maintained along with some more wooded holes that will be included in the final 18. There are some really nice old trees throughout the course and the views of the lake are pretty awesome. Pin locations utilize the natural topography and bring in an elevated pin and death putt potential on a couple of holes.

This course has been designed for all levels of play. Beginners to pros should be able to enjoy themselves on this course. There are isn't a lot of underbrush or rough to deal with on the course and the grass is mowed nicely throughout the year. There are a bunch of holes in the 200-300 foot range and a couple of longer par 4's that really let you air the disc out as far as you can throw.

Cons:

Course is in the middle of a redesign. It's not quite done as an 18 hole course yet but the 10 hole loop is very playable and has brand new concrete tees.

Hole 6-9 have a few small patches of brush that are going to be brush hogged this week. There are also 3-4 small dead trees on hole 9 right in front of the tee that makes the hole quite difficult at the moment. But it is playable as it is a short hole and there is even a line to birdie still....but it will look much nicer once cleared this week.

The concrete tee pad for 10 is not complete yet. The pre-made pad was accidently placed on one of the holes for the 18 hole layout that isn't part of the 10 hole loop. But the park has framed the pad and laid gravel and is going to pour the pad soon.

Other Thoughts:

When this course was originally designed it was planned as an 18-hole course back in 2016. A few lead ranger changes later and relationships were finally reestablished. Since then things have been progressing rapidly. Only 5 of the original 9 holes are now being used in the redesign. I believe the new layout is quite a bit better than the original. It is more player friendly and offers better holes that play better than the originals. It is designed to be very scorable for good players and a decent challenge for newer players yet doable for anyone. I've seen quite a few newer players out here on my last few visits up here. Big things are happening with disc golf in Forest County and the surrounding areas. If you ever find yourself out near this way, I think you'd really enjoy yourself out here.

Tionesta Lake is a beautiful place to play disc golf. There are amazing views of the lake. The walk is mostly flat with the course making use of what elevation is presented. There is little chance to end up in thick rough or thorns. I really like the evolution of what is happening out here. A fun course for all skill levels. A few holes to let you really rip a disc full power and a few holes where you need some touch to score well. I think you will like what you see happening out her

Tionesta by the dam 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 19, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

Challenging. It's designed by a pro player, so you can play it as a duffer, or hone your throwing skills as a competitor on several holes in the middle five holes and #9.

The signage is excellent, but not yet sufficient.

Very attractive and appointed setting. Playing among a variety of mature oaks and maples. Army Corps of Engineers built the dam and the environs and seem to still maintain it very nicely. In the summer there are restrooms and good water available.

Cons:

No focus tape on the baskets. Hard to see them.

Navigation.

The tee signs are there and are very good and your best bet for getting through. The baskets are next to invisible from a distance this Fall.

Some professional level holes not easily thrown by beginners.

Other Thoughts:

Not subtracting for being a niner. It's a real course. Play it now before the forest growth really comes in over the next few years.
