Great property but very flawed course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 4, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

A very interesting, unique and overall great piece of property. The steep hillsides and views makes this course a memorable one. There are a couple holes that are well laid out.

Cons:

Poor signage. It took our group of 6-8 sometimes minutes to locate the next hole. The tee boxes were about 4x4 feet, had wood edges and were filled with dirt and mulch. Having no tee box would be better than one that is indented into the ground. They were also very close to the tee signs, which could cause injuries. Aside from the couple holes that were well designed, most dont take advantage of the property. I can't imagine playing this course in the winter ( I don't know if its open during the winter) due to some of the basket positions. Being on the steep hillsides is a challenge and makes use of the property but unless there are multiple pin locations, those baskets would make playing very unsafe if there was any snow or slippery conditions. Falling near some of the baskets could result in potential serious injuries. Besides there being no signs for the next hole, the course layout didn't help out either. I've played new courses solo and had no issue locating the next hole without signage, so long as the course puts the next tee near the previous basket or if there are obvious trails, paths, etc.

Other Thoughts:

Tionesta has a great deal of potential but I feel it is a pretty poorly designed and laid out course. The tee pads are small and dangerous and the basket locations (I played in August) would be very frightening during slick conditions, This is not a course I would ever play again unless I was already going to be in the close area.
