Winding WoodedCourse

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 24, 2024 Played the course:once

Pros:

I played Tradewinds the day before and would have liked to have bagged both of them, but as the park was closing I came back for Tradewoods on a second day and though it shares some similarities either it's more open sister course this one has a completely different vibe altogether.

It has two or three pads for every hole, and like the Winds course only the middle white one has benches and signs. All the pads are decent sized concrete though. Baskets are DGA I think Mach Vs with a Mach X practice basket by the parking area. From the main white tees the course mainly plays 200-330 or so with defined fairways and large old trees defining the fairways. There are a couple of longer par 4s in the mix and due to the shapes of the holes I would say they are both true multi shot holes and I really liked them.

It's not wooded like a GA or NC course, but for FL it definitely counts and the rough is absolutely brutal which makes even the shorter shots more pressure filled.

Several holes feature water and on 17 you even need to carry it for a bit on the ideal line to the green.

Cons:

The cons here are the high probability that if you go off the fairway you lose a disc. Between the water and thick rough you may not want to be throwing you favorite 4 claw Zone or whatever.

Design wise the only thing I didn't like was through the middle you have a string of holes that feel pretty similar so it could get repetitive.

With 36 holes and multiple tees and baskets on both courses though I don't dock heavy for that. If you are getting board with that many options it's a little on you.

Some of the benches could use a new top board.

Other Thoughts:

Really fun course and the seclusion of it actually makes it slightly more enjoyable to me than Tradewinds across the park. Though it's slightly shorter, it's only marginally more scoreable and nearly as scenic.

Would like to try it again when I'm in less of a hurry, the signs warned the gates get locked at 6 so I jogged though this one.

A Complement to Winds 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 1, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

18 holes with multiple tees on every hole. Tees are concrete and allow for ample run-up. Baskets are Mach X in excellent condition. This par 58 layout will challenge every player with tight but fair lines to hit, and hitting them will yield you a deserved birdie, but missing them will force you to scramble for par at best. New signage a plus. Course also adds a couple of water shots, one easy to avoid and one a little tougher, but has a bailout you can hit to completely avoid the water, always a plus in my book. Next tee signs available under the baskets.

Cons:

Tropical downpours and rainy season often will make the course poor to play at times during the year. Currently only one basket position per hole (this may change, if it does I'll change this). The parking area for Tradewoods is in a grass area across the park road from a hole at Tradewinds that an errant drive can find rather easily, so if you can park closer to hole 1 that would be preferred. It is not the biggest con; it is just something to be aware of.

Other Thoughts:

Getting this course in the ground was no easy task. The BDGA, a local club, spent tireless hours clearing out otherwise useless land and turning it into a beautiful and fair course that will challenge any level player. From tight tunnel shots to mostly open fairways with "natural OB" and even a bomber 18th hole, Tradewoods DGC is a fun play when the course is dry.

Another Broward County Beauty! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 21, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

Tradewoods, the new companion course to Tradewinds offers a more technical woodsy experience than her sister course. It goes in and out of some mostly light woods with a few more technical shots sprinkled in. The course has generally three nice sets of tees per hole and one pin placement. There are a few temp tee signs around and navigation is super easy with several next tee signs where needed. The course is pretty scenic and has a couple of decent water holes and is fun to play.

The park is very nice with several nice pavilions and bathrooms all over the place and is very highly maintained. There are plenty of other activities at this park including a butterfly habitat. There is a strong local club that takes very good care of their courses.

Cons:

The course is brand new so there are a few nags. Some of the rough is very dense. Temp tee signs on some holes. The area around hole 2 was a little wet, which could be a problem during the rainy season. The water hazards will probably expand during the rainy season. A couple of holes play near an interstate.

Hole 18's basket is to the right. The basket you can see from the tee is the practice basket.

Other Thoughts:

The league here in Broward County is one of the best from what I have seen. The nags will be worked out and this course will only get better with age. The possibility is here for a higher rating in the future. lower skill levels will really like this one I think. Most holes are short to mid-range from the short tees and the longer sets of tees add mostly length and a couple add more tech. Everyone in my group (Advanced, INT, Grandmaster Rec) had a fun and enjoyable round here. The course pairs well with the other course here which is more open. Pack a picnic basket and plan on a fun day of disc golf in this park!
