Good Course for Beginner/Intermediate Players

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 14, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Easy course to navigate.
-Convenient location in Denver.
-Variety of shot shapes.
-Very accessible for beginners.

Cons:

-Very few trees or other obstacles, so mandos are used to avoid every shot being a hyzer.
-Lots of gnats and mosquitos once the sun started going down.
-Probably too easy for advanced players. Quite a few of the holes are just throwing 300' on the correct line and trying to avoid a roll. Most of the challenge comes from sticking the greens which can be precarious in spots.

Other Thoughts:

I came here in July, and I was told that they recently got a lot of rain that made the plants grow in much thicker than normal. This made it a little more challenging to find errant discs, but it also made the whole place bloom at the same time. It was very pretty to look at all the flowers and birds in the scenery when I played, but the course is probably much more barren on a typical day.

It's not a bad course overall, and I would definitely play it again if I lived in the area.

Great course, lots of variety of throws, hard to lose a disc 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 27, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Really fun course, lots of variety in types of throws, and very difficult to lose a disc. I really enjoyed playing here.

Cons:

Very crowded, and I assume that is par for the course for weekends and holidays

Other Thoughts:

I like courses like this where I feel the designers were thoughtful with land use, and included mandos that make you throw flick / anhyzer.

is what it is. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 25, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Wide shot selection needed to play the course. Easy to play, great for beginners or practice rounds. Good tee signs and wind flags. Mados are well marked.

Cons:

Small, crowded, easy to get hit by a disc on tee pads.

Other Thoughts:

be careful in the wind, discs will come in in you and it\'s hard to hear people if they call four.

Fun course, but few obstacles 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 5, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Course is easy to find and easy to navigate. There is a path from each basket leading to the next hole. Each hole has the distance carved into a rock and many holes have logs to sit while waiting, along with trash cans. There is also a bathroom located in the middle of the course.

Great course to bring beginners to as they won't lose their discs and offers some shorter holes to keep them interested, yet is long enough to offer challenges to more seasoned players.

Holes of varying length including three holes that are long enough to make them very tough birdies, but even the short holes are not gimmies due to elevation change, hillsides, or a well placed bush/tree.

Cons:

Wide open with very few obstacles. Though there are trees on most holes, they offer little in the way of a challenge as they are too young and small to affect shot selection much. The main tree of hole 9 was taken out even though it was the second largest tree on the course and one of the few that made you shape your shot on the entire course.

Course is frequently very windy and can be extremely muddy at times. Suggest you avoid this course for a couple days after any storm, or during snow melt.

There are mando's on 3 holes that are very poorly marked, if at all that only the locals know to play. There are also a couple area's where people playing other holes are in danger of being hit (primarily people putting on hole #9 are in danger from people teeing off on hole #1, and #17's tee pad is located in a common "bail out" area for hole #16).

Course can get pretty crowded due to it's appeal to both beginners and seasoned players.

Other Thoughts:

VG is a fun semi-challenging course that I hope to see improvements on in the future. Hopefully in 10-20 years all these young trees will mature and create a real challenge

Play this course all the time. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 23, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Convenient location - short walk from Dayton station (lightrail) easily accessible by highway
Friendly regulars - I've played this course a lot! Nearly ever day, I leave 90 minutes early for work and always get a game in. I have never run into a dg snob or any other unfriendly person. I've played it busy, and lightly played.

Cons:

WEEEEEEDDDDSSSSSSSS - While it is kept up with as best as I'm sure is feasible. The tall grass and weeds can definitely eat your disc(s).
Fairly simple - while I am no expert, this course doesn't have any really good elevation changes or water hazards or trees or rocks or... You get my point...

Other Thoughts:

Great, fun course. It can get hot in direct sunlight though. Definitely bring your sunscreen.

Super nice, always crowded 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 27, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Well marked tee boxes and baskets, distance to basket etched in stone on each box, a few birdie and ace opportunities, zero water hazards, slight up and down elevation on a few holes.

Cons:

Usually crowded although most gladly wave you through, devastating cross winds most of the time, thick brush, bushes and trees make it difficult to find errant throws at times.

Other Thoughts:

Relatively quick drive from downtown. 30-35 minutes during 5pm rush hour traffic. Easy and fast drive on weekends. If you're a cyclist you can ride the Cherry Creek Trail from downtown in less than an hour.

Pros:

- Nice tee boxes
- Friendly Locals
- Mowed fairways

Cons:

- Can get windy

Other Thoughts:

I really like this course and play it 3 to 4 times a week since I work in the area. I find that this is a good course since it is not normally busy during working hours 9am to 3 pm. I know people who play tags here on Wednesday nights and they all like playing here as well

Great addition in the front range 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 22, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Great location for DTC and Aurora players. Good elevation changes and fairly decent variety of length. Pet friendly and clean Port-a-Pottie. When fairways get mowed, its great. Pretty good for families and novice players.

Cons:

Trees and bushes have a lot of growing to do. But, grasses and weeds have been out of control in 2014. Watch your disc landing and use landmarks, otherwise you could be searching for a while. 13-16 can get really muddy, but players have been trampling down new walking paths that avoid it. Consistently, you'll run into families and novice groups that slow you down and don't often let you play through. Course gets crowded after work and on weekends.

Other Thoughts:

Note: * GWV City Council is currently considering all municipal parks going smoke-free. This course has a TON of cigarette and pot smokers. So, change may be on the horizon for this course.

Course Review 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 15, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Easy to find holes
Rarely busy on weekdays
Open layout
Relatively easy to find discs
Maps on rocks, trash cans

Cons:

Crowded on weekends
Way too easy
Minimal terrain and obstacles

Other Thoughts:

Fairly good course for the area, every other course around has good probability of loosing discs but this course is not too bad if you land a throw in the fairway (when course is mowed)
.
Watch out for wind in the late afternoon and families/crowds on weekend

Great course to perfect your throw, also easy to start from the back 9 if crowded

If you play them all as 3's this course is fairly challenging.

Under rated course. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 16, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

~Concrete tees & carved rock markers at each hole shows par, distance and map of each hole.

~Usually VERY low traffic during "business hours"

~The course is relatively new so everything is still in great shape.

~Good use of the natural hills and landscape.

~Nice variety of par and distance
(Great for Beginners)

~Course regularly has high winds, bringing additional challenge.

Cons:

~Occasionally, confused mountain bikers will accidentally drive the DGC instead of the designated mountain bike trail.

~The trees are still too young but will prove to be great obstacles in coming years

~Course is VERY busy around 5-7

~Tall Grass. Can easily lose your disc in the rough if you don't pay close attention where it lands.

~Native spear grass will get caught in your socks and shoes if you aren't careful. (Better off throwing away your socks if you walk through a bad patch)
