The Pepper Tree Is An Evil Beauty 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 14, 2019 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

(2.108 Rating) (REVISED - replayed February 2019) A heavily wooded, and extremely short and technical course.
- ACEABILITY - All of the holes here are highly aceable, and players are probably five to ten time more likely to ace here than at a normal course. A great place for a junior player to get a first ace.
- MAINTENANCE AND BEAUTY - A few of crafted lines through the Brazilian Pepper trees are spectacular. In addition, most of the non wooded areas appear to be constantly mowed, trimmed and manicured. I don't recall seeing any trash on either of my visits here. I scored the score roughly a 3 out of 5 in this category.
- QUICK PLAY - As a single I completed the full 9 in under 20 minutes first time thru and then repeated. On my second appearance I played with four players. We completed the course finish in under 45 minutes. This course is a quick easy bag.
- CHARACTER - Wellfield is probably about average in terms of basics and extras. There is adequate hole signage showing hole layout and distance. There are multiple pin placements (A and B) at every hole and the baskets are DISCatchers. There are small concrete tees. There is a good amount of seating, benches and picnic tables, as well as a shelter. Most of the tees are well shaded, and there are restrooms in the park. Probably the biggest character thing that's missing (other than nine more baskets) is a practice area and multiple tees.
- BEGINNER FRIENDLY - Despite the tight fairway lines, I believe this would be a great beginners and Juniors course. No water and a short layout, I brought two of my nephews here, who were 8 and 5, and they had a good time.
- NAVIGATION - Adequate. Accurate course map on site and decent tee signage. First time players will likely have to pull up a photo of the map a couple times on a first go around as there are no navigational arrows between holes.
- LOCATION - A ten minute drive from I75. Great for a quick 20 minute pit stop and then head for a bigger course.

Cons:

Too short for most players
- DIFFICULTY - Harder than its looks on paper but way too short and lacking challenge to players beyond the Recreational Level. Advanced players should have no problem being well under and should be able to shoot all birds from time to time. The challenge is one dimensional, being all accuracy. I could see an Advanced bomber despising this course when they score a 4 on a sub 100 foot hole. They might rate the course as a 1 disc review.
- ELEVATION - Really none to speak of. I know that this is typically for Florida, but this course is flat for even Florida standards. No more than 5 feet of elevation change throughout the entire course layout.
- OVERGROWTH - A surprising amount of overgrowth despite such a short layout. I've pinged trees early out here and have had to get creative to fish discs out of the pepper trees.
- UNIQUENESS - The holes themselves in terms variety are well below average. All the holes are 200 feet long or shorter, except hole 2 pin placement b. There are no water hazards, no doglegs, no open shots, and no overhead plays. I will say however, that despite the short length, using only a putter will not optimize a players scoring. Several holes require a low skipping pocket shot for the birdie and ace opportunity. I've throw several half power over-stable driver to get a heavily turning shot.

Other Thoughts:

A great Beginners, Junior and Novice level course. Although Pinebrook DGC won't challenge those with a seasoned skill level, it will however provide a bunch of fun tight tunnel ace runs. Some players will love this style while others will be disappointed.
