Thick rough, short holes, safety concerns 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 21, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

- This course is clearly designed to be a beginner course, with nothing over 200 feet in length. There is decent length variety I suppose.
- The terrain is very beautiful to walk through.
- Tee signs are serviceable, with hole number and distance.

Cons:

- The Discatcher baskets are nice, but the chains aren't galvanized and are already really rusty!
- No teepads, only tee signs.
- No obstacles other than tall grass and other park users.
- Navigation is not intuitive, hole 3 is across a bridge from hole 2, and holes 7-9 are way off by the soccer field.
- The next tee signs are often right in the circle of the previous basket, so that is a safety issue.
- Another safety issue in having most holes (2, 4, 5, 7-9) right next to another park amenity. It was not busy when I played, but if anybody else is in the park you can forget about playing all 9 holes.
- The parks department does not trim the (EXTREMELY TALL) prairie grass nearly deep enough. Most of the holes' baskets are within 5-10 feet of thick, deep rough full of thistles and thorny bushes.

Other Thoughts:

Overall, this course does a pretty terrible job of introducing the sport to beginners. I can forgive the short distances, but the terrible rough being so close to baskets is the hugest offense. Beginners will have to search through waist-high, very thick grass and thistles for their discs on nearly every hole, an almost sure way to have them never play again. Add that to the safety concerns, and this course is not worth your time. Play Mary Beth Doyle in Ann Arbor instead if you're looking for a beginner course.
