How to cope with the heat?

It has been excruciatingly hot lately, so I was wondering what are some tips for being out in the heat? Also I sweat a lot so any tips on that would be great as well.

When it's really warm out I like to actually carry a towel in my throwing hand. It keeps my hand from getting sweaty between throws.
 
Dress light, don't wear cotton.

As Brad said, I also like to carry some towels around. Usually I just keep one damp towel to wipe off sweat with. If it's a tournament, I actually carry three. One damp one to wipe off any sweat/dirt off the disc, one dry one to dry off the disc, and another damp one to wipe my hands and face with (don't want that same sweat going on discs later). If it's a really hot day I will dip a towel in cold water and drape it over my head. I guess towels are just important for my game on the really hot days as they are on rainy days.

As always, don't forget to stay hydrated. I go through about 1 or 2 32oz Gatorades per 18 holes on really hot days.

Last but not least, try to find shade where you can. No reason to stand out baking in the sun while waiting for someone in your group to make their shot. Even if it means going out of your way a bit, it helps in the long run.
 
1. Schedule wisely. This can mean morning rounds or rounds directly after a summer shower. Also includes course choice. Hot days are great for skipping the open course and heading to a more wooded course.
2. Pre-hydrate. Drink a bunch of water BEFORE heading out.
3. Take a couple towels, wet them and put them in the freezer until frozen. Put them in baggies with some ice cubes (cubes will melt and soak into the towels, keeping them cool and moisture-rich longer. They're money for putting on the back of the neck or the forehead in the middle of a hot round.
 
Play early, play late.

Drink less energy drinks, sodas, and beer. Drink more water!

Carry less discs.

Wear white or light colors to reflect sun.

Wear a wide brim hat, I am actually considering a sombrero for TX.

Play shade golf.

Take frequent breaks.

Or pickup another indoor hobby (i.e. guitar, shoot pool, bowling, video games) until Fall.

But I really think those that play in the Summer will be the better players come cool weather.
 
when i first started playing disc golf it was in baton rouge Louisiana in august!...the course we played (highland road park) the 9th hole came back to the parking lot so after each 9 holes we would take a good 10 min break at the truck and get drinks from the cooler...but like others said ...try to play in the morning or evening..lighten the bag..stay in the shade!...no beer!
 
Nobody has mentioned this yet and its the best thing that you can do, and that's to get acclimated. Basically spend as much time outside that your comfortable with and you'll get used to it. I work outdoors year round and the heat and cold doesn't bother me one bit, and I'm close to 40 years old. I work 60 hours a week in a lumber yard and usually play about 10 to 12 rounds a week, so it can be done. The heat and humidity here in the Mid Atlantic has been pretty bad lately. And last but not least is listen to your body.
 
Night golf

^^^ This! Play glow golf if it is that hot out. During a heatwave last summer, I didn't play during the day at all and every night we would go out and play once it cooled down a little bit. Me personally, I'm not even attempting to play out in this heat right now. I'll R&R for a couple days and go play this weekend when it drops back down to 80 degrees:)
 
Move some place that's not as hot. Design your own indoor course complete with AC
 
I find that the secret to not being bothered about the heat is to get out early on a hot day, and stay outside. If you are in the AC at 75 degrees and then at 2:00 go outside into 95, you will think its ridiculous. But if you go out in the morning when its only 80, as the temp rises up to 95 you don't notice and it doesn't bother you. You will sweat more, so you need to constantly be drinking a lot. Also, I find that not wearing a shirt helps you stay a lot cooler, although most people want to wear a shirt. I feel I can throw better If I don't have something soaking sticking to me, and I have more freedom of motion.
 
I work outside. Here's what I've learned. (That I haven't seen mentioned.)

Taking aspirin before you get hot helps keep you from getting a headache. Citrus works too. I like lime-aid with minimal sugar.

More than one quart of Gator-aid is not good on the kidneys. I'll make a quart last all day by drinking water too. (Not iced cold and don't chug.) If you aren't peeing, you're not drinking enough.

Body powder for your feet and crotch. I buy Gold bond Ultimate but some of my co-workers like a brand called Fresh Balls. (When I work I wear wool socks and boots. When I golf it's cotton socks and tennies.)
