Disc Golf World Tour

It's going to be a fun year with a number of normal tournaments (i.e. not doubles, team or other non-individual type tourneys) running as X-tiers. If we get enough of these, players will no longer be rated (or be rated on a much smaller number of events than typical which makes the ratings less useful).

X-tiers does not automatically mean no ratings. Case-by-case basis. I haven't heard why LaMirada is X-tier for example. St. Jude's was XA-tier last year and was rated.

How is a player to know what the X means? In the past it was pretty obvious. You'd see things like "Doubles" or "Team" in the name of the event. This year you also get "Birdie Bash". Straightforward. But for something like this event which I assume is using medal play, what does X mean?

Isn't World Tour just one division? Perhaps that's why it is X...

There have been many X-tier events in the past with special payouts, charitable, high entry or staged entry fees based on rating that were X-tiers with ratings. X-tier simply meant the format was not according to standard expected medal play, entry fee and payout tables. TDs were supposed to indicate to players why the X-tier so they could decide whether to play.

From the DGWT Q&A on their website:

8) What rules are used in the Disc Golf World Tour events?

Even if not being a sanctioned PDGA event, the DGWT will abide by the PDGA official rules of disc golf. The PDGA Competition Manual for disc golf events will be in effect with some possible alterations. The rules of disc golf as defined by the PDGA will also be the rules governing play at DGWT events. The DGWT will also follow guidelines outlined in the competition manual, but reserves the right to modify those guidelines as necessary. Any exceptions or changes will be made known to the players, media, and spectators in advance of the event affected by any changes made.

Doesn't answer any questions, but feel free to speculate...

One item I heard discussed about a month ago is the players must track certain info regarding their throws on special scorecards to provide more info for stats. Perhaps there's a penalty for non-compliance.

Ah, right, advanced stats are a pillar of Jussi's vision.

I assume Pros are better scorekeepers than the scrubs I play with, so hopefully additional stat keeping won't bother them.

That being said, sure would suck to get penalized for penmanship or otherswise innocent mistake.

I kinda figured they would have people following each card to track stats. I feel like asking the players to track that will be cumbersome, so I'll be curious to see how that's received if this is, indeed, how it will work.

Talk about killing your mojo, let me see, on that hole I threw....

Basically, everyone is going to play, then make up stuff that is semi accurate at the end of the round.

Even more importantly, Do I want to be telling my opponents what my throw strategy for a round is?

And what stats will the DGWT track? Literally can't remember what they had for the USDGC. And what could the players track that would be of any use?
Maybe whether or not the putt was inside or outside the circle? I think I remember that being a thing.

Here's what it says on the DGWT website.
"One example of these rules exceptions are the advanced scoring responsibilities of players in a DGWT event. (An advanced scoring system will be used in all DGWT events. Players will be provided ample instructions and training for the new system.)"
Presumably tracking putts would be one element and perhaps penalties.

IIRC Spin TV reported putting percentage inside the circle, putts made outside the circle, and fairways hit during the 2015 EO.

Green hits I believe were also included at USDGC. Still don't think it's a great idea to leave that to players (or, more likely, their caddies). If this is a big tour, have some people in official capacities doing it.

If you can't trust the players, can you trust their hole scores?

It's not that they can't be trusted, just seems a bit much to have players record the data so the DGWT can produce some stats. Then again, buy the ticket, take the ride - Jussi's vision. Agree or disagree, he's got a vision.

maybe they can get the players to film and do commentary as well while they are playing.

:thmbup:Don't give them any ideas...
