[Innova] for the love of all things not necessary: Wombat 3 is born...

Darn, I must've missed that one. ;)

Just kidding. And maybe they'll put out an FB3, but I'm still manifesting a Star TL3...

This is a snark free honest question. Wouldn't a star TL3 basically be a star tb?

The GStar TL3's I've thrown (a couple of them), didn't fly like a Star Teebird. They were much less stable, like a slightly less high speed stable Star TL (as the name implies they were slightly flatter than a TL as well).

I don't think so. I think it'd be a less domey, slightly more stable TL.

I have a couple of Star Teebirds (both Factory Seconds), and they're nice discs but fade more than I want them to (even on anny flexes). My thinking (and hope) is that a Star TL3 would have a fade between the Star TL and Star Teebird, maybe get a hint more distance than the TL (which gives me plenty good distance).

BTW, I have a GStar TL3. It flies pretty much like a little-bit-faster TL and not so much like a Teebird. I prefer Star plastic to GStar; ergo, the hope that Star TL3s come into being...

Fair enough, I hope on the next dealer release at least one of our wishes comes true!

Me too, and on all our wishes. But no telling what Innova has in mind; the Wombat3 was a total surprise, from what I can tell...

Combat Wombat3

so has any one thrown one of these yet?

Yes. I got one last week. Only had limited throws on the course, so was waiting to give a more complete report. But since you asked...

The disc feels pretty good in the hand. I like flat discs like the Mako3, Roc3, Aviar3, Leopard3, etc., and the Wombat3 feels fine in my grip. The side rim is almost sharp, though.

So far, the Wombat3 has been very straight then turns over and keeps on turning. Dave Dunipace once said the Leopard3 is straight, then has a "late turn", as he calls it. My Leopard3 does just that; straight then late turn. Well, the Wombat3 is similar: on a straight near-full-power throw, it goes straight for a surprisingly good ways, the begins turning over and finishing right.

I need to do some more work on anny throws and hyzer throws (and hyzer flips), to see how the Wombat3 does with those shots. So far I can say that it gets good distance, can handle more power (at least from my noodle arm) than I expected it would, and that it does turn over and won't come back.

Will update as I get more throws in with it.

Update: took the Wombat3 to the course today and got in a good number of throw with it. Weather was good, with a mild but persistent wind, enough to notice and turn discs over a little bit.

On throws at 50% power, the Wombat3 went very straight, but did not fade out. It had very good glide, as well.

On firmer throws, it began turning over faster than it did last week. And on hyzer fiips with some power on it, it flipped up and then turned on over. Again, good glide and good distance.

I'm going to work with it a bit more, but I'm not thinking it'll make my core bag. It's in a place and range where I don't really need an understable/turnover disc. Right now the Mirage does a bit better job on approach shots (Wombat3 tends to go long), and if I need a stable/understable mid, I'd probably rather bag the Mako3.

So the Wombat3 is interesting, and some might find it great for turnover shots requiring some distance, but it's sort of 'odd man out' in my bag...

I've been throwing one lately and like it. I'd agree with most of the above comments. actually felt a lot like a Cobra to me. if you would NEVER carry a Cobra, it's not for you. but if you like experimenting with something different, it actually shapes shots pretty well and brought me some birdies today....

Yup, a Wombat3. I'm 65, been playing since dirt was invented, quite a few surgeries behind me and on my third hip.... still loooove the game and I have the arm speed of your standard three toed sloth. For me and those of my ilk, the Wombat3 rocks. The DX 150 I can throw on a rope as far as any driver, and the Star 166 has two aces 200 feet and 279 feet.

Just thought you'd like to know. An ace on #15 short, Ft Hamby, Wilkesboro NC, a blind shot, this time 150g DX Wombat3. Old man's on a roll. BTW, hit the top of #6 and the bottom of #1 with the 166g Star Wombat3 in same round.:D love this game!!!

Is the Wombat similar to a Wedge? I love my first run, flatter Star Wedge, bought a new one and it's stiffer and much domier. I saw a Wombat at a local shop and almost mistook it for a Star Wedge by the profile. Anyone thrown both?

Wombat3 is large diameter and Wedge is small diameter. The Wombat3 is not a replacement, but rather a compliment. My Star Wedge is great for long putts, long approaches and short turning drives. The Wombat3 is a faster Mid that can handle more power and distance. It is really awesome on long downhill drives, it just holds the line forever. Both discs land flat so they are great for dangerous landing areas.

I love my Star Wedge. Since my Wedge also doubles as my extra long putter, the Wombat3 could not replace it for me.

^ Thanks. Sounds like I'm going to be sticking with Wedges and trying to find more used old soft Star. The Wedge is plenty fast for me and can nearly replace the only mid I carry anyway.

Why not just make a firebird3 and be done with the faf/flat top firebird thing?
