2019 Pros Switching Sponsors Official Thread

I'm not sure the Roc is the right example but there is a reason that this thread is talking about the big money and the contract and its $$. If McBeth didn't increase sales to the point some are claiming here then why would DC be offering anything more than free discs and tournament entry fees? Because his name sells discs... and I would think a LOT of them.

So do many people but damn... how many Novas would actually be sold if Paul hadn't started throwing them and highlighting them? I know avid Nova throwers who HATE MVP/Axiom irrational hate for the Nova as a gimmick that would fade away soon... then McBeth does things and he loves it now. How many people that can't throw a Destroyer love them when they see PMB throw them on short hyzers and flex the bejeesus out of them? And what about ROC3 and T3? Why would most Teebird throwers want a slightly faster less glide Teebird? I like my Teebirds with some G-D glide man... Faster TB? um... you mean a Thunderbird? Damn McBeth's name on a disc pretty much made the market for that thing. I think a Roc3 would be doing ok without him but based on the rest of that stuff i'm sure its become super popular with many people would would have shrugged it off and just said "I'll stick with a Roc thanks."

And to the point about the Sexton FB's haven't you all met folks that because Sexton and Sexybirds believe it is the ONLY "forehand disc" out there? I've met several and heard just about that sentiment on these forums.

Just to say I buy a disc for what I hope it will do. I'm settling into a bag I like and i've avoided trying new discs now that I like what I have and i'm more interested in finding used discs or replacements for exactly what I have. I have way more discs than I need but I know several people that are out buying 3 of whatever workhorse disc the winner of last weekends tournament threw every Sunday night or monday. Those are the players that spend real money and I think there are a lot more out there than some people might think.

Paul is a marketing machine. Nate is not far behind.
Every time a new signature disc is released, it sells out immediately through the factory store.
Every tournament I play always sells out of McBeth Destroyers, Roc 3, Aviars and every other disc his name is on. All Sexton Firebirds are always gone. And they're always marked up 7-10 dollars. You could almost get 2 other discs for that!
I have yet to go to a disc shop and they have more than 1-3 on the shelf. Every time I play an event or league, someone has a McBeth disc or 4.
Every pro tour event I've been to, the crowd for autographs around Paul is much larger. Even if he didn't win or play well. And 90% of them are holding McBeth signature discs.

Playing a few years at Ledgestone, sponsored by Discraft, I noticed how little interest there is in Discraft signature discs. Shelves are always full.

Discraft could potentially benefit dramatically if McBeth signed with them. And I believe Innova knows that McBeth is a major asset to their brand. And I believe they would do whatever they could to keep him. Perhaps Paul did have a discussion with Discraft, but I'm sure he has had counter discussions with Innova. I think he stays put. But I won't be shocked to see him switch. Paul has made it abundantly clear that he feels he is very marketable asset. And I agree. His dedication for the game and consistency in performance have proved that.

What would Discraft have to offer McBeth to lure him away from Innova? Innova could certainly offer sufficient sponsorship compensation to match Discraft. If in fact the rumors pan out to be true, makes you wonder if some Discraft stock ownership and/or a hand in designing discs might be part of the deal.

That's a PDGA commercial not an Innova commercial so you'll still be seeing it plenty.

That PDGA commercial is better than the "It's in the Air" one they used to run. I mean, it's not bad, it's just dated. (I have a t-shirt from Discgolfplanet.tv that has that slogan on it)

If I ever see that girl in her giant oversized button up shirt I will leave her lifeless corpse at the bottom of a mountain holler.

Am I being too harsh? :\

From the CCDG thread...

When do you plan on shooting the next In The Bag with McBeth?

^^^^ If you believe the internet, it will be after he moves to Discraft.

This. I've heard it from 2 very reputable sources in person too. Pretty sure it's really happening.

I still can't take any of that seriously. Nevertheless, I'd love to see what Paul could do with some Discraft molds. Zone and Wasp, especially, for some reason.

He could just be trolling everyone, or trying to get more $ from Innova. won't really know until stuff's announced. Whatever it is well played by Paul. His business game is 2nd to none in the dg player base.

As Paul is planning to build world class course on his property (was it in Michigan as Discraft?), perhaps Discraft has offered to finance that as part of the deal (Think something along Tampere Discgolfcenter, many courses, truckloads of soil etc)?

About Discmania. Theyre not going to pick up an expensive already established big gun (like Jones) its not their M.O. Both Simon and Eagle were acquired early, and they have a pretty good patch of up and comers on the grow. Just a matter of who is going to make it and who not. The Combine brings in more seedlings every year too.

Everyone in the disc golf biz is using the PMB>Discraft bloat for social network trolling, which equals new likes, shares, etc, etc. All this "I know from an inside source" is just trolling. It's good for the "disc golf social circles" as it keeps everyone checking out everyone's timeline, profile, update, story, yada...mcyada....mcyada.

"Theyre not going to pick up an expensive already established big gun (like Jones)"

Established? Maybe as far as tour earnings (4th this year), but in the social realm I think he's just now getting started. I personally think he is the premier player any serious sponsor is going to take a look at in the off season. He has all the qualities of a worthwhile long term investment. Young (21), good looks, and great player skill. But I agree Discmania already has Simon & Eagle, I don't think they "need" a Kevin Jones. @ Innova, Paul & James are 28, BigSexy are both 33, they could use someone a little younger like KJ for their Star Team. Both Discraft and DD could use someone like KJ the most imop, and ultimately it would not surprise me if he ends up with one of them.

.

Nice this post if you think McBeth is leaving Innova.

Quote this post if you think McBeth is staying with Innova..

This is the truest thing I've seen about Paul going to Discraft. I had a friend post a picture of Paul in a Discraft shirt that was clearly photoshopped, like he just slapped the logo on another picture. He captioned it "Paul McBeth Moves to Discraft".

40-50 comments of people speculating and I commented "Yah I talked to Paul yesterday, the contract is almost final". I had 10-15 replies asking for details (not my source) within like 30 minutes.

I'm a nobody in the Disc Golf world, but someone read a comment and believed it without even asking for a source.

Rumors spread like wildfire and no one checks credibility or anything.

Discraft is in Michigan, but Paul's course will be in Virginia, where be now lives.

I would like to see a player move to a big sponsor that's NOT a disc manufacturer . . like Paul with a mixed bag, sponsor by Adidas o Nike
Maybe Buffalo Wild Wings? They could re-shoot their commercial where the groundskeeper turns on the sprinklers to deflect Ricky's 40-ft putt and force a sudden death playoff.
