Winter dg gone wrong

Not exactly super class but I always just threw Condors if I wanted to play with a decent amount of snow on the ground.

Super Class works great too. Putter only rounds might work as well.

Nobody playing with ya? Ask another solo to tag along?

Playing winter DG in Finland, me and my friend have adopted a spotter role. Whoever throws first, the other goes to spot, then reverse roles (even on short par-3s where you might think you're just gonna park it). Has not only resulted in zero lost discs over the couple winters of doing this, plus has cut down on the time spent looking for discs. Some awkward tree kicks can still throw a curveball, but so far so good.

I like to go to the golf course that our local dg shop puts 18 baskets (winter only) I usually play there with a few buddies or on the league they hold there. I like to go throw putters and mids at the course next to my house I know the place so well I got a bit overconfident that day but it is what it is

I personally think that if there's enough snow on the ground to lose a disc them winter disc golf has already gone wrong.

Better not throw in autumn, might go under some leaves. Stay away in summer, tall weeds will get your disc. Don't throw on a course with water, disc might sink.

Probably best to play in the desert during spring only.

Haha, now this is a man after my own heart. No more list discs this way huh? I was JK man, honestly I am just growing to hate the winter weather. Where U am from (SW OH) it is just cold always and the snow quickly turns to slush and nastiness. I miss powdery thick snow honestly.

Anyone have any tips how to find lost discs in the snow.
(I put ribbons on most my discs but a couple still got away)

I live in Minnesota and live near a course that doesn't get much play in the winter. I was playing a little too close to dark and no surprise I lost a few under the snow and couldn't find them. It snowed that night and now they're hiding.

That sounds par for the course for winter golf for sure. Best way to find the discs you lost is go back in day light and look for the marks in the snow. Or wait until the snow melts. On our local facebook pages you always see posts for found discs when the snow melts.

Other than that, accept that lost discs are part of winter golf. I like other's suggestion to play Zephyrs, they tend to hover and stay on top of the snow, or at least they stay pretty close to the surface. I use a champion yellow Zephyr and it is relatively easy to find in the snow. It appears to glow against the white.

Did no one mention sticking lights on the disc? Helps even during daylight on gloomy days.

Also, go out just after sunset and look at the discs in your bag. See those ones that look like they are glowing? Use only those. Often, you can see the glow through the snow. Carry a UV flashlight to help them glow.

That's what I've been doing the last two days. Dayglo yellow pink and orange

yeah yeah yeah, just trying to point out that moving south isn't always the answer. This may be enough to shut us down for a week. We're pretty callow when it comes to the white stuff.

No, no, it's great advice. Moving south is a great answer for not losing discs in the snow because when it snows here the roads are impassable and you can't even get to the disc golf course!

My winter bag is mostly dark colored or black discs, with ribbons on the bottom.

I agree with the mention of trying not to play solo. No lost discs!

SNow golf is fun... sometimes. A couple years ago we had an ice storm followed up by several inches of snow. When the discs dug in, they would slide quite a ways under the snow cover. One of them we finally found at least 30ft away from the entry mark...

I am planning to play in the snow for the first time this year. All previous years I avoided it, but 2018 the disc golf bug has got me, and I cant stop playing regardless of weather, so I'll be out with my disposable discs come first snow.

Damnit Dave I'm trying to keep these yankees up there... oops I've said too much!

We got almost 13" here; how much did you get?

8"-1' is my guess. I was hoping for 4" tops so I could sneak out and play a snow round. :(

I was jk also, losing discs in the snow sucks, but I keep doing it. I'll take a foot of powder over an inch of slush any day.

We have plenty of cactus for green, blue, purple, black and white discs to hide it. :gross:
edit: Condors and Zephyrs, add the Ultrastar in there... at least that's what I did when the snow was powdery.

What's the best color for cactus discs?
